From my understanding, the X-pipe will "blend" the exhaust, giving it a deeper sound. It's not quite as loud as having separate pipes. Someone who has an X-pipe, please chime in yo provide more information.

An x-pipe merges the exhaust gas pulses and combines that with a scavenging effect to pull exhaust gasses from the cylinders that are on the opposing side of the engine. The x-pipe helps to create a vacuum effect. Of course, in merging the Ex. gas pulses sound is also blended and this gives the v8 a smoother note and almost eliminates backfiring and popping when letting off the gas.

I personally have used them on naturally aspirated v8's and they rock! There is a big debate whether or not they work on turbo cars because of the turbine wheel in the path of flow.

Dr. gas is the originator of the x-pipe and they started in use on the nascars. He also makes ovalized tubing and some really sweet bends and such for clearance purposes. I used his spin-tech mufflers and they sound amazing. Now he has one called x-scream. Check it-

I agree...I have used X pipes on naturally aspirated V8's with great success (mainly Ford 302's). Would probably be worth experimenting with.

I think for turbo applications the main benefit would be smoothing out of the sound...however, it could get the exhaust gasses out of the actual exhaust system faster too though.
