Aftermarket Warranty ??
Aftermarket Warranty ??
Hey guys. I am looking into getting a 2008 Cayenne S or GTS (if I can find one for a reasonable price) in the future if all the stars align. I just spoke the the Porsche dealer that is located about 2 hours from my city as we don't have a dealer. I asked them about warranty and they only offer a extended warranty for CPOed cars. So I cannot buy from a private party of another dealer and get a warranty, even if the car still has existing warranty.
Are there any feasible options out there for aftermarket warranties? Any one know what they are going to charge me?
Thanks again.

I'm not sure I understand. If you buy a Cayenne with CPO warranty from the past owner - if you buy it from a private party, or from another Porsche dealer, the CPO warranty transfers to you for the remainder of the term. The original factory warranty transfers in ANY case, you can buy from Joe's Used Cars and if there is a factory warranty, you're covered.
Aftermarket is really iffy. They make an art of denying claims (there is a thread somewhere ongoing where the dudes warranty company is refusing to warranty an engine - claiming the cylinder walls aren't lubricated by oil.. that sort of crap is pretty typical.)
If you check BBB for the company you're considering - you'll get a small idea of how happy people are with the warranty service, problem is - a lot of warranty companies use multiple names, and resell their product to companies using yet more names.
You gotta remember - the warranty company is betting they don't have to pay out anything on the car, you're betting it's a POS and they'll be paying out a lot. Problem is - they have the facts on about every car, so they adjust rates and coverage based on past experience to minimize their payout. They are not in business to keep you happy - they're in business to keep their shareholders happy.
Figure $2-3,000 for a 2 or 3 year fairly comprehensive warranty. You might just figure on banking that amount of money and drawing from it as needed. You'll probably come out ahead.

Yeah, what the dealer said was that if I bought a Cayenne from a non-Porsche dealer I would not be able to extend the warranty through them. So if I bought one that was about to go out of their 4 year warranty in 3 months, I can't buy an extended warranty from the dealer. This sucks since they are trying to force you to buy from their lots but their prices are generally 5-8k higher then the current market.
This is where a good aftermarket warranty would come into play.

When I purchased our used 06 S recently it still had the CPO warranty on it for 4 months. At the time of purchase I shopped around for an extended warranty at several of the porsche dealers in our area. All of them would sell me an extended warranty whether I purchased the vehicle from them or not. Some stated that there would be a vehicle processing fee ($200ish) to inspect the vehicle, but other than that every dealer would sell me an extended warranty.
Ask to speak to someone in Finance, those are the ones that handle selling extended warranties.

The warranty was through Fidelity and the pricing was for the Platinum coverage. The most expensive was the pricing for the 5 year 60,000 mile coverage and that was around $5500.

One thing on extended warranties - why dealers love to sell them.. there is a 100% markup. If they sell you a warranty for $5,500 - it cost them half that to put it into effect. Big money maker for a dealer if they aggressively market them.
I bought an extended warranty for my Cayenne from the dealer where I bought it. The only warranty work I EVER had done was covered by the Porsche manufacturer's warranty within the first 50k miles. The extended warranty was about $3K, and I never used it. Not once. It expired quietly.
Since the dealers up-sale them so much do you think it is better to go with an aftermarket warranty, would that some me some money?
I would love to put my trust into Porsche but you never know and I don't want to get caught without one. Especially when it comes to the electronics / computers of the car.

That is what I am in the process of doing with my X5. We still have 10k and 6 months left on the warranty. I am trying to sell it so the buyer had piece of mind. Im also trying to market it in both stages (Stock vs. Custom).
Have any of you guys heard of issue with high mileage Porsches? I would like on with sub 50k on the clock but this will be the primary daily driver. I know maintenance is only required yearly (that what the dealer said) but I don't want to get ahead of myself and bite off more the I can chew.
