Question Need Help: 05 Brake Workshop Indicator

Hi.....I have an 05 Cayenne S with 88k miles and my brake workshop indicator came on today. I'm not real sure what this means and/or if I should take it to the dealer or try an indy repair shop? I'm assuming I need pads so if I use an indy shop can someone like NTB (National Tire and Battery)take care of the problem? Also is my car safe to drive or is this something I need to address immediately? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gina

The vehicle should be safe to drive, all that has happened is the electrical sensors in the pads have worn thru and are now making a connection which has turned that light on for your awareness. Any independent or qualified technician can easily handle pad changeout, just need to ensure rotors are ok (thickness of rotor still in acceptable limits). There is also a lot of info available for the DIY with a quick search. Don't forget to purchase new sensors, they are reasonably priced.

Another note, as long as there are no really bad noises ( metal to metal) then you have a small amount of pad life remaining, when my brakes finally hit the sensor it provided me enough time to search for pads, purchase them, have them shipped to me, and probably several weeks of driving until pad changeout. Best of luck

I recall reading somewhere that you have about 30% left on the pads when the sensors go off... plenty of time to research, price out, and figure out the best way/place to install. Good luck!
