I agree and personally like the dip stick feature for all the obvious reasons mentioned.

As for the low oil pressure scenarios, even with a dip stick, if your engine suddenly develops a low oil pressure condition due to some defect, you would still react the same way, and that is to shut down the engine ASAP.

But - the low oil pressure condition we're talking about could have been avoided since it was when the oil got LOW (at least that's what the poster who tossed it out there said..)

All it needs is a dipstick (and that's why I'm not driving a new X5, and am driving the P!G (well - that and "Idrive"..)

Yes, a dip stick in that scenario would prove beneficial, ASSUMING that the low oil qty circuitry had failed.
Still the driver would HABITUALLY have to check the dip stick to catch the impending low qty state.

While we are at it, how about the levels on the coolant, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, diff fluids, and transfer case, are we habitually checking them as well?
All have potential for damage if the fluids run low and your "travelling in the fast lane on a CA freeway trying to pullover and stop"...

So are you saying that you will never buy a dipstickless P!G.

Transmission, diff and transfer cases would leave puddles on my driveway - so no need to check them. I do check the coolant, PS fluid, brake fluid, washer fluid and engine oil level at a minimum of once a week. I'm **** that way..

And chances are - I wouldn't buy a dipstickless P!G or any other vehicle that doesn't have a way to eyeball the oil level.

Would love to be in the Porsche dealer showroom in the future when the dealer is about to close a sale with you, only to be duped by the no dipstick feature....

Well there will be a time in the not too distant future when you will be without a car, as they all will be inevitably without dipsticks....

...maybe they will have engines that do not need oil thereby eliminating the need for dipsticks ...

..I think we do not have to worry, since on Dec 21 2012 it will all end anyway, right?

You're sorta like a cat with a mouse eh? Can't let it go..

I'm old enough that situation isn't really a big concern... I'll let youngsters worry about it.

Nope, nothing will change. Your Cayenne will still be there on Dec 22 2012...
