Tire installer in Austin TX
Tire installer in Austin TX
Where do you go to install tires on your Porsche? I live in Austin and am looking for a trustworthy place that will not scratch my rims, will thoroughly clean inside of wheels, and will install the weights so they do not fall off, and will be mindful of suspension so that nothing gets ruined.
Well, I ended up going to a tire shop here in SW Austin, and am very happy to say they did a superb job.
Here is my review of them:
Discount Tire
3922 Ranch Rd 620 S
Bee Cave, TX 78738
(512) 263-1580
They are located on RR 620, just North of Hwy 71 (about half mile N of the intersection on the left).
They are the only shop in Austin to have the Auto 34 tire changer. In case you are not familiar with it, here is a vid. Basically a bad boy of tire changers to ensure proper mount and scratch-less experience.
.
Experience:
I called them to see whether they even do these tires. The person I spoke to informed me that the majority of customers are higher end cars (due to where they are - near Lakeway).
They work on MG, Porsche, BMW, Jag, Lexus, etc
I told them I have a CTT and they said that they are aware of the air suspension and the need to disable it (made me feel better that they already worked on these).
He also said that they have the adapters for lifts so the car can be jacked up properly too.
I made an appointment to change the tires.
Showed up and we went over my car rims to inspect for chips/scratching (so they and I are aware of any previous damage if any).
He wrote me up and asked me to drive my car into the bay.
The bay person informed me he is familiar with the CTT as well and disabling of suspension too.
He instructed others to hoist the car up (showing them exactly locations, etc).
The car was hoisted up and all tires changed. They washed the inside of rims before balancing and placed nicely shaped stick on weights on inside of rims (seems they took the time to do this properly since all weights were neatly aligned to edge of rims, making for a good appearance). Another plus.
In all, I was very satisfied with the experience. They took time to make sure they do this propelry and the job turned out to be hassle free (what I wanted).
I would recommend taking your car to that shop if you are in the area. I will.
My total cost was $160 OTD, including lifetime balancing and rotation as well as flat fixing (that one I should have declined since I can do it myself but heck, still worth the no hassle job).

That's funny, I called in and they quoted me 185- and hyped up his super machine. The Discount tire on 1431 and Parmer usually charges me 22- a tire with the older style machine. As long as the machine operator knows what he is doing and uses the proper plastic guards, there is nothing to worry about.
lol. They may be using their 'sliding' guide.
You can tell them that friend was quoted 160, but looks like you already addressed your need.
