2009 Turbo S engine help
you will hear it on startup but it has nothing to do with the cold, as you turn the steering wheel from side to side the noise is less. I believe its something with the steering and it may be normal ive been listening to some high end cars and are starting to sound the same lol. It may be because of the advance steering system and its constantly working
Did the noise start when it got cold? Does it go away as the P!G warms up?
I've been experiencing a whirrr sort of noise on cold startup when the temps get below 40F. I believe it's alternator noise (of an alternator working hard) caused by the cold startup and the heated steering wheel switching on. It goes away within 1/8th mile or so. It's directly related to engine speed, and it doesn't do it at all above 40F (the heated wheel, IIRC turns on at 39F..) Can't recall it happening last year, but AFAIK the battery is the original in my '06, and it's now one year older.

I just picked up an 08 Turbo and have experienced the same noise. I certainly don't like the idea of the noise being normal but the fact that others are experiencing it as well makes me think that it is. My dealer has also advised that the noise is related to the PDCC. Anyone without PDCC have the noise?
+1 on Dons answer.
My similar '06 behaves the same.
Dealer and 2 indies told me it was normal. You can hear it best on a cold morning startup, when parked beside a wall. I have a new steering rack and pump.

The hydraulic pump for PDCC is also the power steering pump. Basically it is 2 pumps in 1 and obviously the hydraulic circuits have to be separate, but its all in 1 unit. I too have heard the noise and always on Cayennes with PDCC.
You got that right!!
I also have a new rack and pump (CPO'd because of the shudder when not moving..)
