Question Cayenne Turbo Tire--Patch, Plug, Replace?

Quick question...

Had a nail in the right rear tire of the Cayenne Turbo. Was located in the mid-center portion of the tread. Is it safe to drive on the tire after being patched, or is it better just to replace it?

These are the Michellin Diamaris, 275 40 YR 20, N0. They have about 6500 miles on them.

Thanks.

With a car with that performance, I'd immediately replace the tire. Wouldn't want to imagine the outcome should it burst or deflate while travelling at even 100mph. Your life is worth a lot more than a couple hundred extra bucks

Under most circumstances a patch/plug combo installed from the inside will usually hold fine. The way a cap plug is shaped to allow it to stay in the tire without coming out. NEVER just plug a tire - there's where the risk of the plug coming out is. If you even occasionally take the vehicle out at high speeds - replace it.

Take a read up on it here.

Patch on the inside should be fine I would think. Besides, the Cayenne wears tires in 13k miles anyway, so you will be replacing enough tires in awhile, haha.

I had the same problem with my 20" Conti's with about 1500 miles on them. The dealer said $300 for replacement, local tire dealer charged $25 for plug/patch. They said that with the patch, it's as good as new. I saw somewhere that Porsche clearly states that tires should not be patched, but I just couldn't justify spending the money. I've patched low profile tires before without any issue.
