Ticking noise driving me crazy.

Last year the wife says hey i keep getting an oil pressure warning every now and then. This was around December here in MN. So of course I ignore it for a month. Oil was full and there were no noises. But then I started hearing this faint tick tick tick tick noise. So I decided to change the oil like i should have a month ago. Well i unscrewed the oil filter housing and my oil filter was totally collapsed inwards towards the center. Like you vacuum chambered a soda can. Well we only put on about 300 miles on it since that oil change when the ticking started. I don't know whats worse, the ticking or her reminding me it still ticks.
So is this a situation where I can change out some rocker arms and/or do the lifters have lifter cups like my Alfa. As far as I can tell its just one maybe two at the most. I did take off the valve covers to look around in there but didn't really notice much. So of course I changed out the valve cover rubber gaskets and of course I went and hit the stinking cam position sensor wheel bending over the skinny tang. But thats another story. So lets say i can change out a rocker arm or lifter or tappet, is any of this possible or do i need to undo the timing chains and such to do this? Anyone have any experience. I read about a tick but as usual, nobody ever has answers.
