The cayenne can wear through brakes anywhere from 18k- 35k miles depending on your driving characteristics. Pads run around $170 for the front, and $170 for rear as wll I beleive. Rotos are somewhere in the $150 range. So you would be takling around $1000-1100? for parts and labour I would think. That being said, you can usually get away with jsut changing the front pads if you catch it before you hit the rotor surface with the brake sensor. Hopefully, some others can shed some more like on this as well.

The dealer quoted me $900 just to do the fronts!
Did them myself for way less.

Buy the Centric Premium rotors. They are identical to the factory rotors, but are black powdercoated on the hats and in the veins and look sharp. I've had a lot of success with Centric brake components.

I know a mechanic who can do brakes on virtually any Japanese car. Would he be able to do the Cayenne if I supply him with the parts?

Your front lasted 30K miles? Is the rear still good?

I guess I'm surprised it can last that long. It seems like everyweek I have to wash brake dust off my wheels. Something is obviously wearing off!

Ya, it lasted for 30K and still have about 20% pad left, the tech said the rear is still fine.

In that case, the Cayenne should have fairly reasonable running costs aside from tires. Basically, I'm hearing:

1. New front brakes at 30K intervals
2. Oil changes at 20K intervals

One would need to do this level of maintenance (at a minimum) with any car. Brake jobs on BMWs and Jags run at about the same rate (speaking from experience).

2011 Cayenne S Brakes

A little over $2k at local dealer. Did the job myself in 2.5 hours. Used Textar pads and Centric Slotted Rotors. Cost me about $900 all in for parts. Not that hard if you have the tools. Good luck.

If you have any mechanical ability at all, this is a pretty simple job. You can buy good pads online for $250 front & back, and the sensors are cheap, so change them out. Make sure you need new rotors before changing them, you may be able to get away with just swapping pads. Should take you about 1 1/2 hours or so to do all 4.
