Thanks for your advice. Im not using a Long Island lawyer, however, the lawyer that is around that court is still doing trial by declaration I believe. She said that she has dealt with that court many times, and it can be done without having to show up, that she will talk to the prosecutor to see how low they can drop it. she said a no point parking ticket and fines is probably unlikely b/c of the 87 in a 65....but said she'll try but best case situation would be getting a 2 or 3 point violation...which i dont want either.

im a bit worried ha.

I would be leary of a lawyer using trial by declaration in NY. Basically she is charging you for drafting the letter and a court appearance and not showing up for an appearance. You would be bettter off going initially yourself and speak with the cop or prosecutor beforehand. If they offer a deal/reduction you are satisfied with take it. Basically saving your attorney fee for whatever court fine would be. If you think you can get a better deal tell them at that time you would like to adjourn to have an attorney represent you then retain an attorney.

In Ny the way trial by declaration goes is
1) Cop does his testimony
2) Judge or clerk reads your statement into evidence
3) Judge possibly asks cop questions in regards to clarify his testimony and address questions/concerns from your statement.

The reason it hurts you are not present to address anything from his testimony. Basically all the judge can go by is cop testimony and whatever is written in your statement.

I'd say V1, it just sucks that cops around my house all use laser, so it defeats the purpose

ok so im sorry to beat a dead horse but....

i appreciate all your comments and its helped me a lot. ive been researching passport 8500 x50 and the v1...figured those 2 are within the same class

the only thing w/the passport is it seems a better value and the v1 doesnt come w/pop detection while the 8500 x50 escort does....ive been lookin at ebay and what not and the latest version (v 1.8) on v1 doesnt have the pop feature

so escort seems like a good deal. can anyone either verify or correct me on this info?

Dude, if you have read through this entire thread that you started, and you are very concerned with the points on your license to the extent that you are considering hiring an attorney, and yet you are considering the Passport in part because it seems like a better "value," and you still aren't clear which radar detector the members were advising you to buy, then you speak a language I am wholly unfamiliar with on all counts . . .

I just looked quickly back through the thread, and I believe the voting between Valentine and Passport was 16-to-1 for the Valentine. Explain to me again why you are still asking which one we think you should get.

SIXTEEN-TO-FREAKING-ONE! Now I'm no statistician, but . . .

I am a statistician to an extent so I understand the significance of a 16-1 vote, however, my post...or my question within it rather...must have not been clear. What I meant by "better value" was that it has "POP detection" when I was unclear if V1 had that as well. I wanted someone to just clarify that for me.

As for those who have given me advice throughout this thread, I greatly appreciate it all, and apologize in advance to anyone else that may be bothered by me just asking to clarify the information.

Thanks again!!

The Valentine One does have POP protection and it is the best at it.

If you want to save money on a V1, do not buy a used one off of ebay because it could be stolen or old.

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.863 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

Do not buy a K40 because the are overpriced have marginal detection and they can't jam any lidar guns used by police today.

Passport SRX!!! It Has Laser Jamming! If your looking for an installed Radar Detector

If Not, Passport 8500 X50 ATW!

BTW, Just because the V1 is the most expensive does not make it the "Best"
