Jen, did you test drive one with and without the panoramic sunroof? On some cars this really adds an element of noise. I liked the roof but wasn't able to drive one with it so I passed. Probably could still add to the mid October build though.

For those considering the X5 diesel, my research last year showed it could not be outfitted with the M sport package. Perhaps that's changed but you might want to check that early in your process if that model that appeals to you and the M package is important.
Hi Bill,

Welcome to our daily grind! Congrats on ordering your new CS! I did not drive one with the pano roof, but I think it would be a nice option for me since I am probably going to trade my cab. The X5 diesel I think can now be had with the M sport package. I'll check. The X5 diesel is a bargain especially with the 4500 eco credit. It has outsold all X5 models so far this year! Like I said above, stayed tuned for our daily twists and turns!

Jen

Jen, I have the disease, too. Added an M3 last year that was traded for an '09 CS2 this year and selling current E 63 amg for the Cayenne S. The folks at Hendrick love us.

I went to Hendrick to see the new model and got service done there as well. I have spoken to a guy named Steve, seemed very knowledgable. I just didn't like the low trade-in value for my S. Any insights on how to deal with them?

As for the disease, I think I need rehab! I am trying to get to 1 car.

One car? One car? This is but a less advanced case of autophilia: which is a very aggressive illness comprised of equal parts physical, psychological and financial manifestations. The only known amelioration is extreme spousal checkbook intervention. It's a real pleasure to meet a certified optimist. I've already lost that battle and no longer pretend to be in recovery but I truly wish you luck.

I did deal with the same salesperson as you on the Cayenne. I've found their pricing without trade to be decent and consistent with the dealers I've priced elsewhere but have not traded a car in with Porsche yet. They are extremely good about letting you take the car for an overnight test drive. I've made too many mistakes from not getting this courtesy so I appreciate it.

The leftover '09 Carrera s was a $26k savings that may have spoiled me forever. It was bought out of state from one of the best and most knowledgeable sales reps I've dealt with.

I agree with you on the x5 diesel-great vehicle but back then I was unable to get the M sport package. Had an X6 that had unsolvable engine problems so I soured on BMW for awhile after 20 years of owning them.

Cheers

Bill,

You fit right in! I am not an optimist, I am most likely delusional!!!

I like the X5, but the Cayenne has my heart. I will most likely deal with Hendrick. I bought my 997S out of state as well and got a great deal, but I want to buy close to home and get it serviced there as well. So, we will meet one day, I am sure! I've met Eric the Plug guy and rode in his new 997 turbo cab. Top notch guy! He let me in on the good service people. As for the salesperson, I guess I'll give him a call to see if he has an allocation for an S. As you've read, I did an 88k build, but added what I thought was important including PTV. I thought I really want the Burm stereo, but the Bose actually sounds very good in the Cayenne! Can't wait for you to get you Cs because you'll probably get yours before I get mine!

I look forward to meeting you and the others as I learn more about these cars.

Did not get the Burmester but probably because I didn't listen to it. The Bose on the 911 is pretty weak but Cayenne seemed better. BTW, build was mid October and will share discount if you want to PM.

oddly enough, I spoke with Steve tonight. I mentioned I 'spoke' with you online!
Anyway, when my buy-back at Lexus is complete, I will order or buy off the lot, meaning the silver turbo! I'll give you a PM.
Thanks!

I just stopped by the porsche dealership an hour ago to test drive and checkout the new Cayenne. OMG, this the interior of the car is a 200% improvement. I was thinking of getting a 2008 or 2009 GTS but now I really want the 2011 model. I salesmen told me they will not be making the GTS for 2011... is there a truth in this??? I've heard otherwise. I like the roar and exhaust of the GTS, much better than the Turbo. But at the end of the day, spending $120K + on an SUV is kind of redic...

Bill, You might seriously reconsider the Bose if you want a richer and more dynamic sound that is absolutely stunning. I went into my dealer today to finalize options on an S and went back and forth listening between the Bose and Burmester. I agree the Bose is adequate and much improved but if you listen to the the same piece back and forth, there is no way you will continue with the Bose. Now, if all you listen to is talk radio, then it is not worth the extra money.

Thanks for the comparison info. Sounds like you appreciate high end audio as well as great performance oriented vehicles. I have the same affliction but have gradually used the car audio systems less and less over the years. I usually max the $ on performance options.

However I just recently transferred all my music to CD's ripped to computer uncompressed and will be using high rez down loads in future so it could make sense to go listen.

How did you outfit the S?

Meteor Grey, Umber full leather, 19" Cayenne Design Wheels, Premium Plus package, 14 way Power seats, Roof rack, PTV plus, Burmester, XM, Telephone Module

I think that is it. Waiting for Dealer to come back with price and will order. Be prepared... If you listen, you will be getting it. Plus, you are all set up now that you have your music in digital format uncompressed. That is where this system really shines with a good source. 5.1 music is astounding. Your dealer should have a Burmester sample CD.

Actually, I wish I did not care and saved the money for PDCC or rear entertainment for my kids, but it was such a dramatic difference.

I had checked off the Burmeister on my now cancelled CTT. The 3+K price point seemed more psychologically palatable esp. when you're already spending 115K+ on a car - basically you get a credit for the already included Bose stereo so you are in fact paying the 5+K price.

Truth is that it would actually be wasted on me and the Bose would be perfectly sufficient given what I listen to and the bit rate at which most of it is sampled. I also listen to Sat radio quite a bit, and I'm not sure what bandwidth that is delivered at and if the Burmeister stereo makes sense. I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable folks to chime in

P.S. It is still a wicked cool stereo system!
