Is there a reason why you can't close the rear tailgate using the key fob or from the interior button on the driver's door? The only way to close it is manually or by pressing the trunk button?? Am I missing something?

A reason? Not that I know of other than cost. My wife's BMW X5 has the same annoying 'feature' so maybe Germans just like getting out of the car and pressing the button on the tailgate. I agree it is annoying. You can buy a module to fix it (not from Porsche) for less than $200. I can't remember the name of the company but it is on the board here somewhere.

It would be great to hear some opinions on that module, if anyone has it.

Is this what you were referring to?

It was the Kufatech one that I was thinking of. I'd really like it if you were the guinea pig and installed it and then let me know how well it worked!

Waking up this old thread. Has anyone added an aftermarket trunk closer on their Cayenne? Either the Kufatec or the NAV-TV module?

Maybe liability? Maybe Porsche is looking out for us and our safety!

Vitaman - did you add it yourself or did someone else assist with the install? Wondering if the Kufatec install is similar to this detailed install from the NAV-TV website for its unit? http://www.navtv.com/userfiles/edito...loser%20v3.pdf

I'm quite sure it's about safety/ liability: one could close the rear hatch without knowing if someone is in the way by doing it remotely - either with the fob or from the driver's seat. Now, there is a fail-safe mechanism to stop the hatch from closing if someone is in the way, but still....this is a fall-back measure. To install as standard equipment would cost nothing.

Interestingly, most car companies that sell minivans have a way to close the sliding side door remotely....and no one worries about safety.

I wondered the same thing, as I traded a 2011 Touareg for this Cayenne. The T-reg rear hatch closed with both the door button and the key fob. I was both surprised and disappointed to discover the newer and more expensive cousin doesn't. Not sure, but I'm bettin the other cousin (Q7) closes with door button and fob as well
