Painted front grill?

So, my wife and I were at the dealership again yesterday and we saw this new custom Cayenne that was all "blacked out". Looked nice. Not our style, but looked nice. They painted the front grill with the exclusive option to paint it the same color as the car and I must admit, it looked good because it was glossy instead of the dull greyish of ours that we saw next to it. Any idea how much of a pain it would be and cost to paint it aftermarket? Should I be worried about anything? I knew it was going to look good, but for $1120 just for the front grills to be painted just didn't seem worth it.

You could probably have it painted for under $500.00

+1

Go to a local paint shop and realistically you will probably spend about 300-500..

Thanks for the replies. Those prices sound reasonable. Should I be worried about paint shops being able to remove the front grill properly without screwing anything up?

Just make sure they are reputable, or ideally, that they deal with high end cars. My Porsche Dealership has a body shop and paint booth, so I was just going to have mine done when it came in. Was going to be under 200.00

I wouldn't be worried. They are easy to remove.

I had my Wheel Arches, and Front/Rear Bumper painted at my local dealer. I trust them more than a body shop. I might have paid more than a body shop but I am at a dealer more than a body shop and having them warranty a paint defect would be easier than some random shop.

Ya, I was thinking about sending it to the dealer, but I'm not sure if they have a body shop in-house. So they would probably just outsource it anyways. However, I'd probably have some assurance that they would send it to an experienced place since they are slapping their reputation and name on it. Or perhaps they are removing the grill in the shop before sending it off to get painted which is even better.

Do you have any pics? I am thinking of doing the same thing once my Cayenne arrives.
