Break-in Period?

Just wondering if it's necessary to break-in the Cayenne? I've heard differing views over the years but can't come to a conclusive decision on this. I've tried very hard to be gentle to my CTT but sometimes it's hard. I haven't been tearing up the streets or anything, but just a few hard accelerations on an exit onto the highway. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I think there is a paragraph about the first 2000 miles in the manual. It recommends longer trips, avoiding full throttle starts and abrupt stops, driving in racing events, staying below 4200 rpm particularly when the engine is cold, and using appropriate gears so as not to labor or lug the engine.

Ah yes, the manual. The thing that no one reads.

Yes, I guess I should check that out. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, hopefully I haven't pushed it too hard. I've definitely not pushed it above 4200RPM while cold. I have done a couple of mildly hard accelerations, but I think that I'm no where even close to pushing it to its full potential. 2000mi seems like a long time though. Was hoping to be able to have it broken-in by 600mi. When the wife gets back from her business trip, we'll probably drive it up and down the coast a bit. Put some miles on it.

I wouldn't worry too much. Everyday driving, including some harder acceleration, should be fine for the engine. I think the key is getting it warm and staying off the drag strip for the first 2000 miles.

I've got a 1200 mile trip planned once my Cayenne finally arrives. That should shorten the break in period!

LOL... that sounds like fun. A couple of hard accelerations I've done, I've had to cut it off so quickly since I was already pushing 75-80mph. It felt so smooth and like the Cayenne wasn't even being pushed very hard.

Break in

Guys these things are meant to be beat on from day one. As long as you have got a good operating temp dont let your truck be broken in and be a dog.

Exclamation

I've been reading lately about break - in procedures for the new Cayenne, it's funny when I read owners who drove their cars fairly hard from the beginning reported less to no oil consumption compared to owners who followed Porsche recommendations for the Break - in.

I dunno. Why suggest it in the manual if we shouldn't be cautious of it? Either way, I'd rather be safe than sorry with such a pricey vehicle. I'm down to about 40miles left before she's fully broken in so no worries on my part.

I have had cayennes since 2004. cayenne turbo that I was easy on and took a quart every 750 miles. In 2008 the new truck drove it fairly hard like mentioned above one quart every 3 thousand miles. I have had (2) 2011 Cayennes since then 1 turbo one S and from day one drove the wheels off it 5K!! before needed a quart. I have a 2012 S coming in any day so we will see if history repeats itself?

I varied the rpm for the first 1,000 miles no cruise control. After that I used cruise.
From day one I drove it like I stole it just avoided cruise control.
12,000 miles on her almost.

Sounds great, but isn't filling up gas more of a pain? Since driving it all out would require more stops?

Hmm... I used cruise control right from the start. Didn't see in the manual if it said not to use it.
