Are all dealers firm on the 2012 pricing?

We've been thinking about a base V6 Caynne for the wife daily commuter. It seems the inventories are pretty minimal at most places. Finding the right color is pretty difficult already, so I guess price negotiation is out of the question? Back when I was shopping for my 997 there seems to be a lot more discount. I really don't want to be stuck with a boring E-class (her other option) when I can have a Caynne to drive!
What type of discount, if any, are you guys getting?

1. Order the car. Hot selling cars will have all the dealer's slots sold for some amount of time in the future, and few or none in stock - so no breaks there.
2. Find a dealer that does not believe they are going to sell out their allotment of the car you want.
If you order for a "whenever it gets here basis" (about 90 days on my recently placed Cayenne S order) and they do not believe they will sell out all of their allotment of those cars they then have nothing to lose and will take a smaller mark up and get mfg credit for another unit (although Porsche does not dealer rebates like most)
One way to do this, that I have done for many years and many cars: Select as many Porsche dealers as possible in markets where you could pick up the car. I pick markets that fit my travel patterns or offer a great road trip home. Send an email to the Internet sales manager of each of these dealers making a clear proposal of what you will pay. You can't confuse the deal with trade ins. Right now on a Cayenne I think you can easily do an even split between Dealer Invoice and the Monroney on that car. If you can expand your search to a broader list, and play your hand well particularly in markets where Cayenne's wouldn't be so hot; I think with some work you can come in about 2 grand above Invoice.
Remember the accessories and options also have an invoice and a MSRP value so make sure you say clearly that you will pay $x over invoice for the base car AND all options. I always make my proposal based on the number of dollars over invoice I'll pay - not in an absolute dollar amount. Say in your letter you aren't interested in counter offers. If you did your homework and set your target price rights you will get about 20% of the dealers to accept your offer - pick you favorite pick up location and place the order.
I have bought about 20 cars this way over the years - always works. I just ordered a 2012 Cayenne S this way, although I had some personal reasons that limited the range of locations I could take delivery, so I limited the proposal to a very limited list and ended up ordering the car at exactly half way between invoice and MSRP, which in this case was about $5K under MSRP. If I could have been more flexible on where I picket up the car I think I could have gotten the car for about $2500 over.
All this too much trouble? I get that - then you just have to swallow the higher price on a hot selling car. The key is finding dealers who don't expect to sell their allotment.
Hope this helps.
I am in the market for a Cayenne too. But I feel these stealers are not very friendly and marking the cars at either MSRP or $5000 above. I found two dealers in SO Cal willing to give a 2% off MSRP for a fully equip $66k Cayenne V6. But I did not accept the offer.
The sales rep keep on telling me that they are sold out but I find it funny that I hardy see any Cayenne out here in Los Angeles. Maybe 1 or 2 on the 5 / 10 / 101 / 110 per month that I see. Where are these cars going?? China or Russia???
But anyway the Chinese economy is going to crash by the end of the year and the stealers are going to be stuck with a load of Cayennes. By the 3rd quarter of 2012 I bet they will be offering at least 5% off min.
I would just be patience and wait no need to rush and shell out full price. If price does not matter than just go buy it at MSRP otherwise just sit back and wait it out.

Appreciate all the suggestions, specially Ken's valuable input. I do not travel for business or pleasure much, so my search is limited to the SoCal area. I've heard a lot about good deals at Walters in Riverside, but during my 997 search they wouldn't budge, so I ended up buying it at Auto Gallery up in the valley. But it does seem like there are more 911/Cayman/Boxter's sitting in the lot compare to Caynnes, so either they are hot sellers, or Porsche just don't make much of them. I'd gladly take a V6 at halfway between invoice and MSRP. Any dealer you can recommend in the SoCal area based on your shopping experience?
Yipster I'd hope the price would come down without Chinese economy crash. As seen by Greek/Italy financial crisis, events like these certainly will affect the world wide market. I still want to be able to afford the car after they drop the price.

There are not enough v6 cayenne's to satisfy the Chinese market. The v6's are all the rage over there. Many of these v6 cayenne's are being purchased by Chinese exporters and then the car is being sent to China for a premium. This is keeping demand higher than you would think and leeway in price negotiations low.
I was in Shanghai this past September, and a 2011 Cayenne V6 is $1.3 million RMB, which equates to about US$200K! Yet they are all over the street! I can totally understand why they don't have any left over for us.
Looks like the wife is going to win with the boring E-class she loves...
