4-zone AC worth having??
4-zone AC worth having??
Anyone have the 4-zone AC and think it was a necessary option?
Alternately, does anyone who does not have the 4-zone AC wish they had the option?
Thanks!!

I do not have it and dearly wish I did
Its anemic AC is one of the very few complaints I have about the Cayenne
I use it all year round in south Florida, and it seems it takes forever to start kicking in..and the seat ventilation is even weaker
The AC I have on my 12 year old A6-no pun intended -blows it away
Since I don't have back seat passengers on a regular basis,I figured it was not necessary to order 4z
...which was the wrong way to think about it
Instead, having it means you have a more powerful and efficient system

We get four-zone climate control as standard equipment on the Cayenne and Panamera here in the Middle East. I'd order it even if we didn't, I appreciate the luxury of flexible, personalized air conditioning and besides, you can always lock it from fiddling and program it yourself from the front.
I've never found a problem with Porsche's air conditioning here... maybe the factory builds it differently keeping our hellish climate in mind?
khabah

Thanks for the feedback, it is very valuable.
One other question: I was told that the 4-zone AC has a secondary compressor mounted in a box in the rear compartment of the vehicle. Does this "box" seem like it's an add-on or do they have a different trim that hides it all so you wouldn't notice it if you didn't know any better?

If you look at the trunk space of a Cayenne without 4-zone air, you will notice a storage space over the drivers side rear wheel with a net retainer. In a Cayenne with 4-zone air, this space is filled in with a grill cover. This is the location of the secondary evaporator/heater/blower unit.
Ordered our base Cayenne with the 4-zone air. Looking forward to it

I'd that one in my Cayenne, and thanks wwilliam88, now I know why the net is missing in my trunk.
I ordered this mainly for my parents. Although I don't take passenger at the rea frequently, having been complimented for numerous occasion by the ladies because I spare the thought to have 4-zone aircon in the car seems like a pretty good option to me

Thanks for telling me what the rear panel looks like. Is sounds good to me.
I've been annoyed with the P-dealers who look at me like a spaz when I ask about the 4-zone AC. That's the one option that it seems like you cannot find on a lot. These dealers get it in their heads that everyone wants the same stuff: NAV, BOSE, rr camera, etc. In fact, it seems to me that most dealers completely ignore the back seat in the cayenne, as if youwould never have someone back there.

Without question GET IT.
Seperately additional blower.
Rear controls.
Cooler faster! And easier. Ac doesn't work as hard as those without the 4 zone.
I love it and would recommend it to all.

One other data point... while we don't have the kind of summers that Florida does... if you order a Cayenne with the panoramic roof and a dark interior the additional cooling capacity of the 4 zone climate control is appreciated. Moreover, and this is purely personal, I think the "cubby" left in the back of the center console where the rear A/C controls would go in a 4 zone equipped car looks odd in a Cayenne without this option.
It's an expensive option (but then what Porsche option isn't) but I don't think I'd order a Cayenne without it even in relatively good weather like I enjoy.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why 4-zone A/C is not available in the Diesel in the U.S., but is available in Europe? It's not listed as an option in the U.S. brochure or configurator, but is listed in both in Great Britain, Germany and other EU nations.
