Burmester disappointment
Its great to hear what you guys have to say.
And there are quite a few "hot" movie stars that don't do anything for me either!
Littodevil--I was thinking the same thing about a separate sub like cuemaster did. There is a sub with the Burm but oddly when I faded to rear I heard LESS bass than when fading to the front.
Cuemaster- how did you do it? Did you wire the sub to come off the speaker wires ? (That is an option on some subs although not as good as an audio line going directly in to the sub.)

I find their customer reviews very helpful
Just got The Doors"LA Woman" on DVD-audio
Closing my eyes,I felt like I was in the studio with them, not in car
One of the better discs out there
To anyone who doubts the B,just try it
I tested both side by side, and while I thought the burmeister was better it was a very slim margin. Not worth the upcharge. Burmeister did sound a ton better on it's own demo CD. My favorite CD at the time was near identical. Burmeister still sounds better at deafening volumes, but normal listening I thought they were pretty equal. I don't really buy DVD music. I suppose it would make a bigger difference then.
I feel like the biggest limitation of the sound was the CD.
I thought one thing was unique to Burmeister; it played vocals loudly over the center speaker. I didn't hear vocals coming though the side speakers so much. I thought that made the vocals sound slightly more clear, just not an additional $4K more clear.
For what it's worth my wife preferred Bose before she knew the cost. She was in the listening session.

The Burmester is great, but if I was to keep the car for a very long time, I would seriously consider it. If we were to sell the car in the future, we can not recover the $ we put into these options. For my wife's Lexus RX350, we went with the Mark Levinson system, but when we try to sell the car, no one seems to care to pay extra for it.
Also, in our road condition and with these hot/cold weather, the aircond or heater fan going full blast most of the time, it's hard to pick out the clarity of the sound between the different system. just my 2cents

I am happy with my Bose. I hade super duper systems in my other cars and Bose in Cayenne sounds at least as good or better as upgraded systems in Audi or MB... Certainly better than Audi top B&O system.
I have the Burmester and it's terrible for the type of music I listen to. I have Bose in my GTR which isn't great but far more suited for anything with bass. I listen to a lot of hip hop and r&b and the burmester simply isn't design for it.
If anyone here is considering getting this system and like loud bass, don't do it because you will be extremely disappointed. If on the other hand you like clear vocals and what some may say real music, then this is for you. No doubt it's better than Bose or any other factory system, just not for bass. The woofer in the back sounds like it has a hole in the cone and distorting a lot of the time which drives me insane! Actually the 7 logic system in my 6 series sounded a lot better!

I would agree this isn't a hip hop sort of system. Burmester's home equipment isn't designed for that either.
So, yeah, that's an important issue to consider. What type of performance do you want from an audio system and what type of equipment do you enjoy at home or other cars?

The bass on my car is very tight and quick (which I enjoy), but certainly not tremendous volume. But by comparison, when I'm listening critically at home I use SETs more than anything else in the house. So I'm looking for totally different things than some other buyers might be.
Well, you should get that checked. I've had cars come from the factory with minor wiring mistakes and other things. Sounds like it's worth a look.

But what in the world justifies the price on some of them? I saw one for $180 and thought it was a typo. No so, cuz I soon found another for $250. What's the deal?
