Escort Passport 9500ci installation on a Cayenne 2012

Hello guys.

I'm opening this thread because I know there is many folks out there who have questions about what Radar Detector to choose.

Although I know some people may disagree with me, this is what I chose. I went with the 9500ci because for many years I used to have the 9500xi and they are very similar systems when it comes on functionality and I'm very comfortable with knowing the system very well. This system has a build in GPS system and it knows where you've been. If you pass three times from the same location and the detector catches the same signal frequency three times at the exact same spot, it stores the frequency at this location and locks it out. In other words, it learns where the false alarms are and that makes it very quite when it should. The detector is extremely sensitive. It can catch the Ka bands from very very far giving you plenty of time to slow down without have to slam on the brakes. However here are some installation tips to make the system perform at its best.

After a HUGE research I decided to take my car to Findlay Customs. Very good technicians and they know the system inside out. It's very important who installs the system and I will explain you why. First of all, the laser shifters should have a perfect view of the road as the Radar detector. They should be perfectly aligned at 0 degree straight and 90 degree with the road surface. In other words, the shifters should look PERFECTLY straight! A little 3% deviation and you lose 70% of the performance. Many folks are wondering about how the system interferences with AAC and Lane change assist. Well, the 9500ci doesn't get triggered by the AAC either the Lane change assist and all systems work perfectly together.

They placed the laser shifters perfectly level on both vertical and horizontal axis which is extremely important. Each shifter was pivoted to a 0 degree to the road surface. They placed the Radar detector right under the ACC ball, nice and straight. The GPS antenna was mounted right under the front bumper and it locks the satellites in no time. The rear laser shifter was mounted on the bottom side of the license plate. The display was mounted right under the rear view mirror and the control module right in front of the arm rest for easy and fast access. The speaker as the USB ports and all cables - wires are absolutely completely invisible. It looks just like it was build from the factory in Germany.

I have attached you some pictures that the mechanic took during the installation. Soon I will upload more pictures.

If you guys have any questions I'd be glad to help you.

Nice! I have another new 9500ci ready to install when I pick up my CTT next week ... I have it a little easier as I own an alignment machine at my shop and the alignment rack is 100% level so I can ensure the vehicle is already flat when I install it ... and I too know the importance of a perfectly level sensor, and with the auto leveling of the car it's that much better since it'll compensate for load changes in the car.

Will post more pictures soon. I just drove from Vegas to Mammoth Lakes and the 9500ci works amazingly. Picks the ka s from so far away giving me plenty of time to slow down.

Just arrived to Jackson WY from Mammoth Lakes CA. 13 hours in the Cayenne and I can easily say was one of the longest road trips I made in a day. It's amazing how perfect the Cayenne drives on snow!
