Was towed while in park

Hey everyone! Great forum!

My Cayenne was towed along with all the others on the street - apparently there was no parking on that street but no clear signs around. Anyway, it was towed while in parking mode. Does anyone know if that could damage the transmission in case they didn't put it on a flatbed tow truck and just lifted front wheels with rear on the ground?

It was towed about 5 miles away from where I was parked.

I don't remember who towed it. I'll look it up but I asked them if they towed it on a flatbed and the guy looked like he barely understood english and just said yes without knowing what I asked. He wouldn't say the truth anyway - they don't want to be responsible if anything. The car drives just like before though.

Its hard to say but I will say this....last weekend I was at the Sarasota FL christmas parade and they ended up towing approx. 8 cars before it started and all of the high end vehicles BMW, Mercedes ect. were placed on the flatbed....so I would want to believe that an AWD high end SUV would of got the same treatment.....but then again you are dealing with one of the lowest forms scum bags out there (tow truck drivers) lol

I agree - that's why I don't even rely on them telling me the truth. Anyway, it drives the same - I just hope that nothing that was damaged now will come out later. But I think if something was damaged I'd already know about it.

Yeah, the entire side of the street was towed. Was full of cars when I parked and empty when I got back. Could have just given a ticket - no need to tow away.

They would have had to flatbed it, or it would not be working right now.

Also, I would assume the got under the truck and released the manual linkage at the transmission, putting it in neutral to lead on the flatbed. I honestly don't think it would have been done any other way. I say that because I own a transmission center and sometimes cars are locked up and do not roll, must like in park, and it is not only hard to get them on the truck... But damn near impossible to get them off.

Mike.

Drag them on, drag them off.

OP, they could have used a dolly(s) on one axle while lifting the other as well.

I had my wife's Mercedes die yesterday and had to have it towed (on a flatbed). The directions to release the transmission (remove cupholder, put cupholder cover at 45 degrees and insert "pin" into hole to release) were impossible - I somehow got it done, but I wonder how the towing company would have done it. How do you release the Cayenne transmission if something is wrong? Like dead battery?

By the way, the Mercedes died when I turned it off and on at an intersection (don't ask why). I suspect that as cars with the auto turn of/on transmission age, the chances of cars dying at intersections will substantially increase. One of the stupidest ideas of car companies. May seem to improve mileage in short run, but will cause much more repair bills and discarded batteries and starter motors in long run. Overall environmental effect: negative.
