I had begun to notice that unpleasant wind buffeting sound that comes from poorly designed sunroofs had started up in my Cayenne S panoramic roof. I had a BMW X5 with a Panoramic roof that when retracted to the full opening (it had two opening modes, the biggest opening was lovely but. . ) the buffeting noise was unbearable and the dealer(s) said that was just the way it is.

On my Cayenne S the sunroof didn't open as far as the BMW did but it was very pleasant with the roof open, even at speed. However, lately I've noticed a increasing buffeting sound reaching the point I would drive with the sunroof less than fully retracted.

The screen that pops up at the front of the roof when open is there to defeat the air flow that causes buffeting. The screen still looked much the same as always until I examined it up very close - and sure enough much of the mesh was plugged up with dust, hard to see but there it was.

I took a brush to loosen it and then my shop vac to finish the job. It cleaned up very easily. And all buffeting noise was gone.

I don't drive that much with it open,but sometimes around town..where I have not noticed much buffering
I never chose this option to have it open..just for the extra sense of space and light it provides
