'12 vs '11 CTT - 1st day thoughts and the thing that makes my blood boil re: '12!!
Long story short my '11 CTT was totaled a few weeks ago and I picked up a '12 CTT to replace it yesterday.
I had purchased the '11 slightly used (8 months of in-service time with 4,500 miles) and amazingly found a '12 (15 months of in-service time with 7,500 miles) that was almost the exact same build so I jumped on it.
Here is the build w/ notes on differences from my '11:
-Meteor Grey / Black
-Carbon interior / shift / steering wheel
-Dials in white
-Compass in white ('11 compass was black)
-Panorama
-Premium Package Plus
-18 way seats
-Bose ('11 had Burm)
-PTV Plus ('11 did not have this)
-PDCC ('11 did not have this)
-Telephone module ('11 did not have this)
-Voice control ('11 did not have this)
-21" Sport Editions ('11 had 21" Turbo II)
-Running boards and front/rear skid plates (had dealer add these to the '12 to match my '11 as I love the look and boards are quite functional for my wife...and me to be honest even though I am 6' tall)
-Escort 9500ci radar/LI ('11 did not have this)
-Full clear bra ('11 had a half setup)
I have only put about 100 miles on the '12 but here are my initial thoughts on differences from the '11:
-PTV - Very (!!!) cool, especially in the city (Chicago) where I make lots of turns from 1 ways to 1 ways so can really exploit it...probably going to get me into trouble! I wanted this and PDCC when I bought the '11 but couldn't find one I liked that had these options that I could justify the cost of, very glad the '12 has them both!
-PDCC - It is simply amazing how much this changes the vehicle driving dynamics. the steering feels much heavier and the feedback difference b/w the '12 and the '11 feels similar to the difference between driving my M3 vs a regular 3 series. As a side note I think the steering is a bit off in the '12 as it feels like it is pulling right a little, so going to have that looked at.
-Bose vs Burm - I definitely miss the Burm. I actually did not think I would and was initially pleasantly surprised with the Bose but was focused on low-end which is comparable b/w the two. Now that I have listened to a decent amount of music I can definitely tell the difference in the high/mids (vocals especially) b/w the two systems. Small bummer but I can live with it. Especially for the $20k I saved off ordering a new one.
-Brakes - no squeals from the '12 yet, which i find interesting as my '11 brakes were horrible.
-Telephone module - I am an iPhone user so can't really utilize this which is a bummer.
-Voice control - I think this is a known weak feature with P-cars and have not played with this much yet other than clicking the button to see how it functions. It certainly does not seem as robust as the system in my '09 M3 but not a big deal as I rarely use it.
-Compass dial in white ('12) vs black ('11) - this may seem silly to comment on but it is a $500 option so figure I would comment for the benefit of others ordering new. I was pretty excited that the '12 had it in white to match the rest of the dials but I think it may be better in black. That said, if you have not seen both you probably won't know any better.
-Sport Editions vs Turbo IIs - I love both wheels and have always struggled on which I prefer. I thought the Turbo IIs looked better when paired with the skid plates and running boards but am pleasantly surprised by how nice the SEs look on the same setup. My wife had same thoughts.
For the moment I have the best of both worlds as I had my winter set (19" Turbos with snow tires) on when the '11 was totaled so those are in storage and will have to make a call on which set to keep as I plan to sell the others to pay for a new winter wheel/tire setup.
-Escort 9500ci - It was already installed by the previous owner and they were going to pull it out but I paid to keep it in as I did not want all the panels taken out again to increase chance of rattles and have always wanted a system like this anyway. It seems pretty good so far but I know the LIs in it are not the best so time will tell.
-Full clear bra - Glad I got this and makes a big difference in appearance over the half setup I had on the '11
-Blood boiling difference - Five minutes after pulling out of the dealership yesterday from picking up the '12 my wife and I stopped for lunch. Got out, hit the lock button on the remote, and was rudely surprised to hear the HORN honk twice instead of the nice alarm chirp on my '11.
To say I was furious was an understatement. It may seem trivial to many, but I am very detail/aesthetic-oriented and think it is ridiculous that you buy a $100k+ vehicle and have to listen to an obnoxious horn. Even more so because Porsche apparently thought the same thing at one point but then got cheap and changed it.
I went back to the dealer and had them turn off the audible confirmation so now only the lights flash when locking the vehicle, but still incredibly disappointing. I am curious if anyone with a '13 or '14 can let me know if it is still the horn or they went back to the alarm chirp?
I think that is it so far. Hope some find this info useful/helpful!
Also, I know some will be curious on the story behind my totaled '11. It was not my fault (another guy ran a red light), but I am not going to post additional details/photos until everything is finalized/settled with insurance, courts, etc. I have lots of pics and will post them at some point. I will say the CTT was amazing and I walked away without a scratch.

Nice write up.
PDDC and and PTV are what sets the Cayenne apart from other SUVs
To answer your question my MY13 CTT had the double horn honk. My newly delivered MY14 CTTS has the double chirp.. Nice

I wish I could say that I am shocked one '13 has it and another does not, but unfortunately I am not surprised in the least. Likely some German supply chain efficiency that makes sense to a bean counter. It does lead me to believe that the chirp could be retrofitted, will have to investigate that...
I got one of the very early 2013s (July 2012 build), so have the double horn. First time I heard it, I thought of the old Plymouth Roadrunner. That said, it can't be any more complicated than lifting the appropriate wire from the horn circuit and plugging it into the aftermarket notification device. I haven't actually traced the wiring to confirm this, I'm just basing the supposition on having previously owned 2 Mercedes, 2 BMWs, and a VW.
My 2011 Touareg had that embarrassing brake noise, but only when cold - and only in reverse. Glad to say it's fixed in the newer Cayennes.
Assuming your telephone module includes the wireless handset, you can in fact use it. But as you say, not with the iPhone. It requires a SIM card, essentially giving your car its own phone number. Note the chromed slot beneath the console display screen. Pretty sure that's where you insert the SIM card.

I have an Oct 13 build with the horn beep and it irritates me every time I hear it. My dealer still can't turn it off in the software like they can in the 12s and earlier.

Bummer for those of you with '13s that still have the horn. So annoying.
Another difference I have noticed between my '11 and '12 is that the '11 would show the current speed limit (based off GPS/map data) in the very top of the TFT multifunction cluster and the '12 does not have this feature as far as I can tell. I have looked thru all the settings for the MFD and the Nav screen and can't find a setting to turn it on.

That feature is automatic. When I switch from a 55 mph road to a 70, the display lets me know. When I change routes - say at a freeway exchange or crossroad - the display changes to compass. If the new route has a different speed limit, it will display that as well. Sequentially of course.

I drove a Cayenne Hybrid loaner a couple weeks ago that only had a couple thousand miles on it, so I assume it must have been at least a 12 if not a 13. It had the speed limit display as you mentioned.
Bimmer owners have been "coding" for ages. Meaning they buy a cable, download the software and hookup their laptops to their cars to activate or deactivate features. Stuff like DVD in motion, seat belt chime, etc. Can't the same be done for Porsche cars?
Makes no sense, as my 2013 does. I wonder if you've got the feature over-ridden with some other function on that line?
