I just completed this mod. But instead of pulling the vacuum lines, I just disconnected the link to the exhaust flaps. It was surprisingly easy to do (just pull out the pin / washer and pull up to remove the link).

this is a good mod to know about but with the bypass pipes installed, having it on all the time would be too much. these pipes make the car noticeably louder in a good way. but if you want to be quite, i.e. with kids in the car or sleeping wife it's nice to be able to shut it down.

Do the flaps rattle when disconnected from the actuators?

No, I haven't noticed a rattle. I have attached a quick video of the exhaust.

What did you use to pull out the pin? I tried this earlier and it looked like it was secured with some sort of snap pin or something, didn't want to damage anything so left it alone

I just used a nose plier to pull out the pin. Here is a photo of what it looks like.

Just to follow up on this... I recently started noticing a rattle during a cold start.

So I attached the link back to the flaps and just pulled the plastic vacuum lines instead (as first suggested in this thread). Now there is no cold start up rattle. So I recommend pulling the vacuum lines instead of removing the link to the exhaust flaps.

Nice. But what do you mean by disconnecting the tube?

I'm guessing he means the vacuum line that pulls the gate closed. Call it a line, tube, hose, whatever. I gather that if you disconnected and plugged the line (and where it connects, to avoid crud getting in there) you'd accomplish the same thing as the button, but full-time.

While I enjoy the sport exhaust note there's enough times like coming home late or early morning that I'd rather be kind to my neighbors and their sleeping kids and keep it quieter.

2008 Cayenne Turbo Exhaust valve

Is it necessary to unplug the connector in the engind compartment and the vacuum hose at the muffler to keep the valves open all the time?

no, I only pulled the vacuum lines off and that's it. Zero issues.
