Diesel gas filter

Called my dealer today for appointment to have the oil change and he told me that Porsche wants to change the gas filter every 10,000 mi (every other service) and that goes for $500.00 plus the oil change charge (water collecting in the tank they say), all I can say is WOW. Between this and Ad Blue the numbers change for any type of savings on cost of ownership. I guess you just have to enjoy the torque. We have a good dealer and service guy but this was a surprise even for them. Need to go in the backyard and shake the tree a little harder.

Someone else got this line a few months ago. I checked PIWIS at that time and the 10k information had not been changed. I'll try to remember to pull it up when I get home and see if its been updated.

According to the last info I read, they should drain water from the filter at 10k. At 20k is when the filter is replaced.

PIWIS still says the last update to the Oil Change Interval document was in July and the Intermediate Interval was last changed in May. I downloaded the documents in August.

Obviously nothing I say would hold up to anything, but I'd question them on why they want to replace the filter outside of the documented cycle and I'd ask for a copy of the document if they say they have other documentation from Porsche.

All my local dealers what $450-675 for the 5k interval which is why I'm doing my OCIs myself. I'm also going to tackle draining the water from the fuel filter myself at my 10k (due whenever I finally get it back from the body shop). If you go that route, just make sure you document everything (parts purchases, date, milage, etc..)
