Oil for topping off
Oil for topping off
I am reading on this forum that all Porsche engines consume oil - Is this the general experience in the Cayenne as well? I have the V8 motor
1. How much oil consumption would be considered "normal"? I expect to drive 12-15K miles per year in this vehicle. I need to know if I need more than a quart handy in the garage. I am assuming everyone uses Mobil1 or equivalent full synthetic?
2. Do you add a quart at a time when topping off?
3. Do you go by the engine level indicator screen exclusively, or is there is dipstick as well? I can't find one in the engine bay.
Thanks!

If you do a search you will find some good info on the topic. Some people never need to add oil. Others have to pour some Mobile 1 every 1500 miles.
My Turbo uses 1 Quart every 4-5 thousand. A small price to pay for performance.

Only time we had to add oil was after the 10k service. It took the dealer three tries to fill it correctly. The third time the display indicated low I asked to see them check the level with the Porsche 'special tool' dip stick. As they did not have one the next door Audi dealer loaned them theirs. No issues after the dealer finally did the job correctly.
On the other hand our air cooled 911 does use oil, but very little.
