Does the car automatically downshift to the lowest allowable gear when mashing on the pedal or it it only downshift a few gears? If I want to downshift to the lowest allowable gear using the paddle shifters, do I hold down the left paddle shifter until it changes gear?

 

Whether it's in auto or manumatic, the tranny will only allow the safest downshift gear available for the engine speed. Sport mode seems more responsive in this respect when in auto.

 

Dont play to much with downshifting . It is supposed for the tcu , to dont allow you too shift to much , but one time on my cayenne it did .. I was at 130 km/h and wanted to shift to 3rd and shifted to 2nd !!! After that I had to repair the transmission . A 1750 euro repair to change the valve and oil ... So I suggest you to keep it in sport mode, it will downshift for you wright after acceleration
