Brake fuid level message
Brake fuid level message
I am pulling my hair out for the last hour or two! Did a brake bleed on Cayenne (2011 Turbo) - one of Calipers had air. Everything by the book with Motive bleeder.
So after I was done, I started the car and for "Brake Fuid Level" message on the dash. Checked the probe, and it was touching the Max line. So I sucked out a bit with a syringe to put it exactly in the middle. Start the engine - same message. I kept removing 10 ml and starting again till it was a bit below the "low" mark, and still same result. WTH?
Am I measuring it correctly? Does the cap have to be fully screwed in for measuring level (the probe is on the cap)? Or do I need to re-set the computer somewhere?
I bled brakes on my other cars many times and never had to deal with this nonsense... It's just bizarre.
I also noticed rear pads were at about 1/3 left, from new in 6K miles. Is this normal? I have PTV.
THanks

I'd get the level back to where you think it should be, then drive it around (cautiously) for a few miles and then cycle it.
Some of these messages like to stick around for a few cycles and miles. Don't know if this is one of them, but worth a shot. Obviously be careful until you are sure the brakes are functioning as expected.
6k seems low for the rear pads, but I guess it depends how you drive. I would expect the fronts to be in worse shape. Is the wear even on all the rear pads (e.g. Stuck caliper)?

did you change your pads also? sometimes when pushing the pistons back into the calipers, ive seen the rush of brake fluid going back into the system causing the floater/senors inside the reservoir to get jammed or stuck. and such a message will appear. I would open the cap, take the filter/screen out and inspect the floater/sensor inside the reservoir. make sure its not ****ed, jammed or stuck. I had this problem on one of my audi before, after playing with the jammed floater/sensor and freeing it, the error message cleared right away. another thing to note, is that if your reservoir is topped off and your brake pads are worn out, the next time you change your pads, brake fluid will come out of the top of cap and spill everywhere. stupid dealer techs don't realize you're not suppose to top off brake fluid when youre topping off fluids. low brake fluid means your pads are worn and everything is in the calipers.
