Does anybody know if the uprated power and torque in Turbo are achieved through ECU remapping or if there is actual hardware involved. It would be great if just software and we could get existing cars remapped.

You mean the VR6 with turbos added? It won't be that as it will be a motor built specifically for FI (e.g. torquey).

You can certainly always slap turbos on a NA motor, but that's when you get big turbo lag and shorter lifespans. These days they are building gas motors specifically for FI that act more like diesels (low end torque) that mask the turbo lag for a smoother power delivery.

It is the V6 from the Macan turbo. Bespoke to Porsche.

As I understand it is the 3.6 V6 used in the Macan Turbo. This has a slightly bigger bore than the 4.8 V8 it was derived from. The 4.8 V8 had the back two cylinders removed to create a 90 degree V6 a new crankshaft and a balance shaft was designed in as a 90 degree V6 is inherently unbalanced.
It is very easy to get 420HP instead of 400Hp the Macan Turbo has. As long as everything is strong enough you just add a bit more boost.

Had Carrara White been available in 2014, I would have chosen that. But very happy with the Meteor Gray too.

thanks for the replies! I never knew they engineered to elimate turbo lag, that's interesting!

I wouldn't say eliminate, but significantly reduce to the point most people don't notice it. Being an NA guy I have yet to drive a turbo where I couldn't feel the lag however minor. Including in my CD.

Nothing like the days of old though when you had a single giant turbo bolted onto an NA motor that had all its torque higher up the RPM band.

I feel the same way.. am ready to order a 2015 and was bummed to see the color is no longer available. Does anyone know if Porsche adds more colors over the first few months? I ask, because the options seem very limited compared to the Macan and I found this press release pic of a great looking Grey (2015) that I can't identify. Hoping that means the site is just not fully loaded with all the colors yet.

I likey a lot. You could be onto something robotpdlr. It took some time to load all the info for the packages, so maybe. I wanted to avoid black as I have three black cars. We'll see.

They don't typically change the colors during a MY. Typically they'll change one or two options with the model year change though. My experience is that they are usually the "crazy" colors that most people won't do. There used to be a purple that I liked, but was NLA by MY13. A green had also disappeared by MY13 and MY14 added a true red (and I believe got rid of the Auburn).

Thumbs up

Just spoke to my dealer, who said he had an internal document listing all the model year changes for the Cayenne. Meteor Grey was still listed as a color for MY15. So it maybe that the website is just not fully updated yet (as it wasn't for the package descriptions a couple of days ago).

Hopefully that is true, as it makes sense.

Interesting, I looked at Porsche's China page. The V6 is still being offered there. So, me think (and I am sure lots of Porsche sales specialists suspect) Porsche just want to kill the gray China export market.
