Power Tailgate Damper / Strut Replacement Help

Hi all

Has anyone here replace a strut / damper on the powered tailgate on a 958 please? The noise I have in mine is from a failed unit according to local OPC but their labour charge for replacing them both is around $350 so I wondered if it can be done relatively easily at home?

It looks straight forward, simpler than a 955, but I dont want to take it on if it becomes a pain.

I was quoted about $320 per side (quoted in UK GBP and changed to USD) so the change isnt going to be cheap, hence the thought about saving a bit of money and fitting them myself, with help ofcourse.

Thanks in advance

Carl

I haven't looked so I can't speak to it, but if you are going to want to DIY with the 958 you might want to look into setting up a PIWIS/TSI account (https://techinfo2.porsche.com/PAGInf...Type=GVOStart)*. You have to pay per document and they make you credit the account first, but that is the same documentation that the Porsche Techs use. It will still be awhile before there is a good library of DIY articles for the 958 so having that in your back pocket will come in handy.

Technically their info says you have to be a shop, but they've never questioned my account.

* US based people can't use the sign up directly on that link as they won't be able to add payment information. You need to use the "Other Countries" link at the bottom first and then select USA from the North America list.
