Ugh. Plastic coolant fitting on back of motor failed.

Love the car! No plans on changing. But with 41K miles I just lost all my coolant on the highway requiring (obviously) a tow to the dealer.

Unfortunately they have to remove the motor to replace this "cheap" part.

I'll be without it for at least a week.

Wonder why they use plastic on the hot motor? Can they not use an aluminum fitting? And from reading lots of other Porsches seem to have similar cooling issues.

Do you know which part it was?

The 955s have a known issue with the V8s (NA and TT) where the T pipe will fail. It hasn't been much of an issue since then though and this is the first I've heard of a 958 failing like that.

With the 955s there have been plenty of cases where the transmission and xfer case seals ultimately fail prematurely due to the coolant exposure if not replaced at that time. Also in the 955s the starter was in the line of fire when the T let go and should be replaced at the same time too. Dunno how applicable that is to the 958 layout and your issue though.

Great, this is exactly what i wanted to hear 8 months from my warranty expiring.

I researched coolant issues across the 955/957 and 958 platforms after smelling coolant around my car. I cant believe they used plastic for the runners especially given the location on the past gen V8s.

Not sure which part...But was told it was a piece that had multiple coolant line fittings on it. On the back of the motor. Had to drop the motor and trans.

It was a plastic part. The tech told me while it is not common on these cars he had seen a few.

Also replaced the hatch motor arm (was not closing or opening correctly) as well as an LED tail light assembly.

Fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong...But loving the car!!

I probably have this issue and it's in the prelude to failure. After drives of over an hour I can smell coolant around the hood area after stopping and parking.

Funny thing is I've put 12k miles on it since purchase and I've not once got a warning on coolant level. It must be a really small leak or something related to hose and clamps that leak slightly when really hot.
