2013 Cayenne Diesel Towing Help/Advice
2013 Cayenne Diesel Towing Help/Advice
Hey guys, need some insight. Bought the wife a cayenne diesel. We are looking at toy haulers to take our son riding/camping. We are looking at Livin lites. They are all aluminum and super light weight. I am wondering what you guys who use their cayenne to tow what you think about weights. Biggest we are looking at is a 8.5x24. Total length is 28'2". Dry weight is 4995 and tongue weight is 650. We aren't towing a ton of gear so probably another 1000. Now I know by the numbers we are ok, but that doesn't make it safe or comfortable. What are your thoughts. We won't be traveling much more than 500 miles one way. Maybe some mountain stuff but basically non mountainous terrain. Trips to Disney campgrounds and riding parks in Ga, Fla, Tenn, etc. my other option is the smaller 8.5x20. Weighs 3800 and tongue weight of 450. I just think the extra space of the 24' makes more sense. Just worried it will be a nightmare to tow since it's a huge box. I'm use to towing race cars on one lightweight trailers. Any insight would be great. Thanks.
I pull a 27ft pontoon boat, 30 ft with trailer, with my Cayenne Diesel and it tows effortlessly! You should have no problem towing either size trailer, as long as you load the trailer properly and the weight is distributed evenly! Your mileage will be cut in half to about 15-18 mpg but that is still pretty good! If your trailer has an aerodynamic nose that would be a big plus! Have fun towing! Cheers

I posted this pic on another thread but, be sure you get a good height adjustable hitch to make sure the trailer tows level! With 650lbs on the hitch, the back of your Cayenne will sage a little if you don't have a self leveling air system, after you see how it sets, you can adjust the height for level towing under load! Cheers.

I just bought an 8.5x20 enclosed car hauler. I had been towing with an open trailer. On the 4 hour drive home from the factory, I noticed that with the empty trailer, the car had a bit of sway over 70mph. Never felt that with my open trailer.
I tow a sub-3000 lb car in a 22' enclosed steel trailer with my 2013 CD with air suspension and PASM.
It's great overall, and remarkably stable. I used to tow a lighter setup with a V10 Touareg TDi and the CD is better, even with the heavier setup.

Well, I just added a Ram 1500 hemi to my mini fleet, so I'll probably use that for the longer trips to keep the miles off the cayenne. Already have 15000 on this one in 6 months!

I tow about 5500 pounds of boat and trailer behind my CD. I towed the same rig behind my 09 Case. The CD will out pull the 09 any and every day of the week. I also tow about 2000 miles per year and from the bay area up to Lake Tahoe is a standard run (that's where the boat stays most of the summer) up over 7,400 foot passes.
You'll do fine with the CD and that diesel loves to pull. Fuel mileage will definitely drop into the teens, but that's to be expected.
