Can a dead car battery be completely recharged by just jump starting

Hello All,

yesterday my battery was dead completely I jump started but it took me a long time to crank the engine.. I left the CD running for a few minutes, this morning, I started her but battery was a little weak, but I left the car there.. this afternoon after work, I tried again and the battery was weak again, couldn't start the CD..

I'm calling road side to have the car towed, I don't want to drive to Porsche dealer and have the battery charged and for them to tell me its normal..

what do you guys think might have caused this problem, my S.A said maybe I left a light on, but that was impossible

thanks all

You need to drive it after jumping it. Idling won't do. The RPMs need to get up so that the alternator is putting out it's full power.

A good hour drive should get it recharged again.

If you can't drive it good distances regularly to keep it charged or if it sits for long periods of times I suggest getting a battery tender to keep it topped up.

How often do you drive it and how far/long does it get driven between cranks?

For those weekend trips, was it errands (e.g. lots of short trips between stops) or serious driving?

Why would it be impossible that you left a light on? Inquiring minds want to know..

BTW - what does your voltmeter say before the engine starts, and then after?

Voltmeter? you say.. yes there is one that can be viewed in the multi-instrument-display in the instrument cluster under the "Vehicle" menu. You can set it to appear whenever that menu is displayed. To have the vehicle remember the setting - first save to one of your seat-memory positions, then stop the car, get out and press LOCK on your key. It will be retained in the memory settings for that particular key.

The plates inside the battery can get covered in sulfur. Sometimes it won't charge via traditional methods if that happens.

The best way to bring a battery like that back to life is to fully charge it via a trickle charger like a Battery Tender. It should be fine after that.

The battery is about 3 years old and died? I would replace it, it won't be the same again.
