Degregated key range

The keyfob on my 2012 958 has becoming less responsive recently. I thought it was the battery, had that replaced. Also tried the spare key with new battery, same issue. Sometime it works fine, other times I literally have to place it on the windshield to lock the doors.

Anybody ran into this issue before?

My range has been fine except after less than a year, the fob stopped working. Using spare until I get a new battery.

Are the areas where you "literally have to place it on the windshield" new areas from your previous habits? If not, has there been recent construction in the immediate area that coincides with the change? If it's at home, have you changed your WiFi configuration?

Car remotes are impacted by other radio waves in the area that can significantly degrade the communication with the car. Some times even a few feet makes a significant difference.

I haven't had significant issues in the Cayenne, but my wife used to have a hell of a time when she worked downtown. Her studio was next door to a TV broadcast antenna. When she had to park in front of it on that side of the street, it was exactly as you describe and sometimes she would even be forced to use the manual lock. If she got a spot across the street or 2 or 3 spots in either direction on the same side she'd have ~5 feet of range.

not a specific area on windshield. Just seems like if I hold it up anywhere on windshield it would work.

And it's not location specific. Sometime I have this issue at home, sometime elsewhere.

Does anybody know if there is an antenna for the keyfob somewhere in the car?

Pretty much has to be one eh? Dunno where - the factory service manual doesn't have a component location chart that I can find.

Just searched it on: REMOVING KESSY ANTENNA - and found there are around 5-7 of them. One in the center console, one near each wheel arch and one under the floor of the rear compartment, and maybe one behind the rear bumper. I suspect most of these are for the KESSY (keyless entry/start system) - the multiple antennas inside are to read the key when it's inside the vehicle. I think the ones in the wheel arches and perhaps behind the rear bumper are for exterior key sensing.

There is someone somewhere who is adding KESSY to his 958.. If I can spot his thread I'll pass it on - basically he removed the entire interior of his Cayenne (I was really impressed - ALL of the interior was removed) in order to install the antennas and wiring.

RickDC is infamous around these parts
There's a parts list and placement here and a whole car catalogue of parts:

https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/pet/

I looked and on the 958 there's an antenna in the dashboard, in the roof and at the back of the roof (looks like it's in the spoiler).. Could it be that one or more of the connectors to the antenna has come loose?

hey here I am ))) what I'm I good for :P

Well you stand 99% correct on Kessy antennas location, there are 6 of them. 3 out side 3 inside. When you have Cayennes not equipped with Kessy like ours the remote antenna comes down to just a Cable that's behind the rear roof spoiler. You might want to try that spot. As for the signal lost I experience the same issue you have and DILENBERGER is right, first check in your area for a new COM antenna (cell phone tower or tv or whatever) also check for new tall building surrounding your usual parking spot.

The other thing I might ask testing is moving to a different location an see if it happens. Just do this and let me know the outcome, I can go to my local Porsche Shop and talk to my friends there about it and give you a definite workaround for this. Take care bro.

That is an amazing thread! The guy is hardcore ripping through his interior like that! Thanks for the link!

I'll try getting the keyfob close to wheel well and see if that works better.

You'll not see the antenna on this catalog.. To see it you'll need PPN and to answer this I pretty much doubt it becomes loose this connector clicks into place and to even access it you'll need to remove the whole steering wheel under cover and after that is a PITA to the the front module out.

It's not that big of a deal to get the interior out. It took both the tech and me around 10-15 min flat
