958 ctt key wont work

Just bought the car, and had to move like 2500 miles. The road trip was great, no issues (except once the sunroof wouldnt open until i restarted the car, and half a day bluetooth had some serious interference). But the main issue is the key/remote. Car only came with one. After a long drive, i got to a hotel and noticed the car wouldnt close. So i pulled out the little key and used that. The next morning, they remote worked again. It worked all day. Then today again it stopped working, so i got a new battery and figured that all is well now, but late in the evening, it didnt work again!!!

What could be the issue with the intermittent working remote.

Fyi, car doesnt have warranty and there is no porsche dealer in montana.

Do you put the key in the ignition to start the car? I have found that my iPhone 6 interferes with the Porsche keys. With Bluetooth off, the keys work fine and the unlock and start goes without a hitch; with it on, it is hit or miss...

Yes i do use the key to start the car, but there is also like a little button almost inside ignition hole. I have no idea what the button does.

I will try to experiment with bt, but that sounds super weird .... During the day, it works great, but in the evenings it stops working, super weird

Please help!

Porsche dealer is in another state/8 hours away!

This is getting silly. During the day the keyfob works, at night its a 50/50 shot. Yesterday evening it worked, this evening it didnt. I even tried turning off my blue tooth.

What else can this be? This is very embarassing!

Change the time in the PCM so the car thinks day is night and night is day. Just kidding obviously, but feel your pain. I hate issues like this that don't make any sense.

It's possible that the little chip or transponder in the key that communicates with the car is on its way out. When it doesn't start, does removing the key and flipping it over, inserting it the other way do anything?

Might see if the battery for the car is on it's way out.

Just to clarify, the car starts just fine, no issues. Its just the open/close function. Yesterday: i was going about my buisness and it worked all day. Then in the evening, around 6pm (after it got dark) it wouldnt unlock or lock. Around 9pm is started workig fine again.

I had sporadic symptoms like this with my 955. I took the remote apart and found that pocket lint was the culprit.

Key also went through the wash a few time as it had corrosion on the circuitry. The key eventually died a year later.

I haven't look closely at my 958 key but, can you take it apart?

Also, I think you may be referring to the "key release" on the ignition.

Feel for you, never easy diagnosing this type of issue.
