Buying used 2004 turbo what to look out for

New to Porsche and new to this forum.

I'm looking at a two used 2004 turbo's and was wondering what I should be looking out for in particular.
  1. Are there any known problems with these cars?
  2. Any TSB's that must have been fixed?
  3. Any special inspections I should do?
  4. Any SW tools to read out from the ECU?
One is 107k miles for $21k, other is 66k miles for $27k.

Any input appreciated, thanks.

It's an age old question. They have several articles on this issue just have to search. A few a coolant pipes, cardan shaft, coil pack...few others.

I would definitely take the one with less miles especially for a few grand difference. You can probably negotiate a better deal, I would shoot for $24,5 and see what happens. Have you tried Carmax? Any vehicle that you buy from carmax the offer a extended warranty, which is awesome!! The warranty is fairly cheap as well, just a thought. PULL THE CARFAX ON BOTH!!! See if they have consistent problems or if the carfax is clean. Also you should invest in a clear coat gauge, (It measures how much clear coat is left on the vehicle) this will let you know if there has been any body work or not. You can find the on eBay for about $100 for a good one. Regards.

Probably the most important thing you can do when looking for a used 2004 Cayenne is to invest in a clear coat gauge, (It measures how much clear coat is left on the vehicle) this will let you know if there has been any body work or not. You can find the on eBay for about $100 for a good one. Regards.

66k miles. no brainer. very reliable vehicle if some known issues are taken care of.

option differences will also be critical for the price you are paying for.

I have an 04 Turbo. I would look for a later CPO car. That way you can have any issues fixed under warranty. I had the following replaced. Coolant pipes (expensive), Cardens shaft, control arms, and transmission (uber expensive). Now at 105K miles I have low compression on one cylinder. Car still runs goId but check engine light comes on. I love the car. It does everything perfect. Ride is comfortable on soft setting, handles amazing on sport, faster than my 911 on the highway and room for my kids, slicks or a load for a trip to the beach. With an extra set of. Rims and winter tires it is unstoppable in the snow. Just get everything checked.

There are many issues mentioned in excellence mag a while back. Go for lower miles but a newer vehicle is better yet. There were problems through the first half of 2005. I would not buy one unless ot was either CPO'd or I had a PPI before I bought it.

Lower mileage for me but the choice is typically never that easy . Find out the repair / maintenance history of the car and where it lived. Keep in mind, this is a 120K car and when that thing breaks, you are getting bills in line with the original price of that car. IE BLOODY expensive. But.. what a hoot to drive and tear up the asphalt!!
