2009 Cayenne Turbo S Winter Setup

I am in Colorado and have been advised by the dealer to get snows on my current 21" rims, but by other knowledgeable people to get 19"s with winter tires to provide more cushion and the requisite softness for winter performance.

The issue is offsets and how they are unique among different models (even between Turbo and Turbo S) and across model years. Does anyone have a proven 19" winter setup on an 09 Turbo S?

I would really prefer smaller wheels for the winter.

Welcome to the forum. You don't need proven anything - simply good snow tires. I don't switch and simply run all-season snow/ice tires year around. No point, as I see it, to switch on any of my Porsches, and they do fine. You'll obviously get a softer ride, year around, with smaller wheels and taller tires. However, if the 21's are okay with you, and you can find snow/ice tires in that size, no need to switch. I find the 18's harsh enough that I wouldn't ever switch to anything larger.

Are you saying you have driven on 21" wheels with snow tires on a Porsche Cayenne?

Nope. The wheel size won't change your winter performance, your tires will. I meant to say, if I didn't, that I would never wear 22" wheels. Too harsh a ride for no benefit.

I had a '09 CTTS with dedicated 19" winter wheels .. the darn thing was just about un-stoppable in the snow. I worked a deal out with TireRack .. no regrets.

I've got 18x8 OEM Cayenne Turbo wheels with 265/65/18 tires on my 08' GTS for the winter and it's unstoppable.

Saggio,

Would you mind posting up some pictures of your Cayenne GTS wearing the 265 65 18 tires? I am thinking of adding a Cayenne Turbo S to my collection this winter and previously thought 305 35 22 tires were the tallest tires that could actually be fitted to a 957/958 Cayenne without major rubbing issues.

Thanks,

Jeff

I posted a video where you can see (off angle), my 255/55/18 winter setup. However, for a 957 CTTS, the minimum wheel size will be 19" due to the 380mm Brembo brake calipers up front.

FWIW, get the smallest diameter winter wheel that will clear your calipers if you want the best traction/winter performance (tire choice notwithstanding).

Winter wheels will be back on in a few weeks. Will post pics then.
