Manually Open Tailgate

Hello everyone!! New to the forum!
The tailgate on my 2006 Cayenne S does not open when you press on the handle or the corresponding key on the FOB. When I press the FOB the top portion (Glass window) does open but not the actual tailgate. I attempted to manually open the tailgate from the inside by removing plastic lid and using a screwdriver and pushing lever to the left (from inside) but it does not open. I also attempted pressing the tailgate handle and assiting it with the screwdriver but tailgate does not open. Maybe I am not doing hard enough but I am afraid of breaking the lever or something else.
Any help is appreciated!!

Welcome!

I do not remember any threads of anyone having issues opening their tailgate, so I do not think this is a common issue. There are no lock-out switches or anything special you need to do to open it. My tailgate is hydraulically controlled, so it is not a simple lever mechanism. As such, I would recommend you take it to a dealer or indy.

The icon on the fob is to unlock the upper portion (glass) section or the whole gate. The "tailgate" does not open when the fob button is pushed. Nothing opens. Once you unlock the tailgate or hatch (top half) you have to push the button beneath the rear wiper or handle to then manually open the gate. You don't have an remotely opening tailgate. Once you close the gate, or hatch, the entire system will re-lock.

If you are having trouble, you can certainly drive by the dealership and seek their hands-on assistance. Welcome to the forum.

I am still having issues with this. All of a sudden it will start working and than same issue re-occur. I did read another thread "Can't open rear hatch on cayenne" describing the same issue and how to manually open the hatch from the inside. I attempted as suggested but have not been successful.
