From a Cayman to a Cayenne -- thoughts?

I'm currently in a 1st gen modified Cayman S (PSS9's, LSD, GT-3 seats, etc) but have moved northeast and can't stomach driving my baby in the snow and don't want it sitting all winter... I'm considering making the switch to a Cayenne. Right now perhaps an '08 GTS. Will I be bored? Any input??

Thanks all,
BK

It's a great SUV but its a SUV...and the 08GTS is going to cost you more than the current cayman you have...
You sell a $30-40k car and buy a $60k car for the snow? Just buy a WRX or something for the snow that's still fun to drive.

You will never ever get any bored out of a Porsche..every single ride they roll out is absolutely amazing in other way..Cayenne is a hugely potent car and i guess it is the best SUV money can buy.

My buddy has both a Cayman and a Cayenne. For what it's worth, he drives the Cayenne most of the time (and he obviously has the option to grab either set of keys)! :-)

Driving his Cayenne is what made me decide to get one of my own!

the cayenne is incredible in the snow, you will laugh at how it handles the worst weather effortlessly.

I can't see you getting bored. I drive the Carrera when the weather and road conditions permit and NEVER get bored driving the Cayenne.

Well..I would keep the Cayman as you can still drive it quite a bit in the winter when the snow is not on the ground and get an all wheel drive of some kind (a Cayenne is great) for the nastier months. I loved my Subaru Outback and highly recommend one but eventually decided I wanted my Porsche fix all the time so replaced it with a Cayenne Turbo. The Cayenne is great fun in a straight line as the power is addictive and it handles very nicely. I am only reminded that is is indeed a heavy SUV when I switch back to my Cayman which never fails to show me the proper way to go around curves.

I did justify the CTT since it can and now does tow my Cayman to the track...

Good luck.

I'm sure that would have entered his mind/posting if possible. Most people can't get their hands on one Porsche, let alone two at once. Those few of us who can should recognize that it is rare and fortunate to have one, let alone multiple.

I bought a 04 Cayenne Turbo two years ago, many times, I think I was driving a sedan. I just purchased a 09 Cayman S, and it's definitely handles much better. I still enjoy driving it and have to often remind me going a bit too fast on street lol. I think it's better to have both cars, if you must sell the Cayman, Cayenne is a great SUV, but have you consider getting a Panamera 4S?

I have both, A 2011 Base Cayenne which my wife drives and I have a 2012 Cayman R with the sport bucket seats, we have no kids. We live in Northern Virginia where you get a fair amount of snow but nothing close to what you would get in the Northeast where I used to live. The vehicles are completely different however great to drive in their own way. The Cayman R has stiffer suspension and you feel every aspect of the road, is lower to the ground is great for spirited driving. Its a sports car! the Cayenne has a much more cushy ride but handles nice but nothing like my Cayman R. The wife hates the CR because it is a PITA to get in and out of with seats when she is wearing a skirt or dress. Both cars handle just fine in the snow but i would hate to only have the CR in really bad snow. If could only afford one I would most likely get the Cayenne because it is more practical and versatile.

+1, get a cheap daily beater and keep the Cayman. No matter how great the Cayenne is, it's still a SUV. The reason most people prefer to take it daily is b/c, it's higher, you don't have to worry about anything. Just run it over. It's easier to get in and out off, you don't have kids in their imports that wants to race you, it's a lot less drama, but that doesn't make it a fun car, it just makes it a better daily. I can't imagine driving a SUV everyday and not have a fun weekend car.

It's hard to suggest Audi without knowing why exactly OP wants Cayenne. If it's just AWD, sure TT S/RS or S4/S6 fit the bill. However if OP needs AWD and space, Audi is not the right way to go. I have '12 S4 and with a small kid now, I'm looking to switch to something bigger - there is just not enough space. I know S6 is bigger, but then it costs much more (and is prob not an option given that OP wants '08 GTS)...
