Newbie insight 04-05 CTT.
I have been thinking about pulling the trigger ona. cayenne turbo for quite some time, but need some advice on what to look for. My budget would be around 20K. I know the coolant pipe is an issue on higher mileage Turbos. Ideally I want to lower it and do a full exhaust and tune. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks
I may be selling mine for around that 20k figure. Already lowered with 21" wheels.
It has 117k miles. ALL service done. Items replaced:
Spark plugs replaced 116k miles
Transmission valve body replaced with Revmax unit at 116k miles
Battery, water pump, secondary air pump at 114k miles
Brakes bled 106k miles
Coolant pipes replaced 98k miles
PCM replaced 86k miles
Brake pads/rotors/sensors replaced 86k miles
Left valve cover and left lower turbo pressure pipe replaced 86k miles
Drive shaft assembly replaced 67k miles
TCU replaced 56k miles
Coils/plugs replaced 51k miles
Pretty much what you want to look for is the valve body, coils/plugs, coolant pipes, and drive/cardan shaft assembly. If you're interested in mine I'll be happy to share more details, but this is what you need to look for.

Well lets see. Seeing as how I'm just going through what you are thinking about doing I can give some advice...
1) Check the trans to see if the valve body is bad. At about 50mph or so stomp it to the floor. If there is an issue there will be NO DOUBT about it. If it needs to be done its about $1,000 DIY job or $2,500+ mechanic job.
2) Check the brakes especially if it has any kind of big brake package. Just have the rotors checked, if they need to be replaced it can get spendy depending what size and part they are.
3)Coolant pipes you already mentioned, if you can verify they were replaced it should be good.
4) Cardan shaft/drive shaft and bearing support. The drive shaft bearing support is a known weak point and if it goes can create other problems. Have someone check for play in the shaft or crawl under there and give it a good wiggle. If they go bad after buying a DIY job will be around $1,000 for both.
5)Make sure everything you want to work actually works. Small things can add up quickly.
6) For exhaust do some research on here, you can go low dollar Magnaflow system (like I'll hopefully have in mine next weekend) all the way up to the high dollar systems like Akropovic or Fabspeed.
7) You can lower it a little bit using a Durametric cable which you will most likely want to buy anyway so you can trouble shoot codes and such.
8)A tune is anywhere from ~$1,000 on up to $2,000-3,000+. Not like chipping a Camaro for $300. I'll let you know tomorrow how I like my Softronic tune. Have to go pick up my ECU and plug 'er back in tonight!!
9) Don't expect it to hold any kind of real value. While I think they are a pretty good performance bargain, they still seem to be dropping like rocks value wise. And I'm good with that, just don't expect to buy it, drive it and sell it at a profit anytime soon!!
10) Check out some of the modded Cayennes on here. There are some truly amazing machines!!

I'd be willing to trade my 99 Dakar m3 and e55 amg for a clean cayenne turbo...

I think maybe you had a different trade in mind but that might be fun. Rarislayr really though?
The Softronic tune seems to be pretty awesome so far. Lightning quick throttle response and boost seems to build quicker to boot. New exhaust, diverter valves and cat deletes and this thing will be a monster!!

Im glad you are enjoying the tune as it will only get better .....

Haven't driven it a lot yet but the throttle response I felt right off the bat. Amazing! Have some new diverter valves on the way and a new exhaust hopefully this week or next. Should make it even that much better!!
Thanks for the super fast turnaround too!!
