Hi,
I've been reading posits about a suspension noise from a cayenne. Recently I had an experience at a local mechanic shop where the mechanic was trying to disassemble the tie rod from the knuckle and used a hammer on the knuckle to make the part come loose (due to lack of proper tools) it was hammered so bad that the knuckle kind of welded the hammer spot on it kind of like a vertical line. Ever since I am hearing kind of something loose from the front suspension when going over bumps on a low speed. Is is possible something got loosen from the hammer impact maybe the strut mount or I don't know. Does anyone else have this happen to them, maybe after hitting something. I've had the lower control arms replaced about six months ago everything was fine until the incident at the local shop. Would appreciate any feedback before taking it to the dealer. The noise is annoying and doesn't feel like a porsche but an ancient jeloppy when going over a bump. However it is intermittent sometimes I drive over another bump and it makes no noise at all. Just like nothing has happened and everything is perfect. I also read before that on these cars the suspensions kind of feel the ride, where as the car could just be acting up. Thank you guys for your input. The car is rarely being driver with 75K miles for an 04. Or maybe I should replace the knuckle itself.

Reason: more details
Wow, I think you should tart by finding a new mechanic that does not have a hammer. Trust me when I tell you that porsche did not design any thing that requires a hammer to fix. If you can post some picks of the hammered part.
thanks BG305. I will try to get an image of the part as soon as I can get the car up on a jack. these guys used to be good. just this one guy maybe used to be welder in the past. have i not witnessed it i wouldn't of known where to start. sometimes i think that they are doing these things on purpose to keep taking the car back to them. on the long run i think the dealer is a better alternative. i even have a case to take these guys to court have them pay for the repair.
hi guys i have attached a picture of the knuckle. also i noticed that the rubber on the tie rod on the right is kind of hanging little bit over the edges and the area is kind of rusty. where as the tie rod on the left the untouched, the rubber is kind of folded on top of each other the way it should be? could it be that the tie rod rubber on the right got broken when it was disassembled and assembled and the grease came out and is whats making the awkward something loose noise when going over bumps. is there a special way to install a tie rod? thanks everyone for your input. i appreciate it, i called the dealer just to get a quote, to replace the knuckle is 4 hours of labor at $175 plus about $400 for the part. if i can get away with just the outer tie rod it would cost way less.
FWIW, I know of the hammer suspension trick. It is not as bad as it seems, as long as the part you are "tapping" is made of steel, it is fairly harmless if done properly. Also much less risk of damaging the other component than a balljoint separator fork (wedge). Although a properly sized balljoint puller is what should have been used.
All said, I doubt the hammer was the issue here. It is more likely that either that is not an OEM balljoint or the balljoint was not greased properly.
Thanks Renaissance man. the part is the original OEM part. it has not been replaced, it has just been tapped out and put back in place. the ball joint comes with grease in it. it does not have a place to add it. should the area where it is being mounted be greased?
