P2293 code - Fuel Pressure Reg

I'm getting this error code. Searching find the cause culprit ranges from a bad fuel pump, to fuel press Reg, to fuel filter...any experience troubleshooting this error. This is the first car I bought an extended warranty on. Though the stealership is a long ways away. I can trailer it over which is a pita... Reviewing my extended warranty the fuel pressure Reg isn't covered. Any experience in troubleshooting is appreciated

Thanks in advance

Rob

Rob - perhaps a clue on the year/model of your Cayenne might help. There have been at least 3 different fuel systems used that I know of just on the gas V8 models. Count in the V6 and diesel and we really need more info.

Experience in troubleshooting: Ask better questions to get better answers.

You're right. My bad. It's a 2009 V6, normally aspirated. The obvious next step it would seem is checking the fuel pressure and start working back from there.

Indeed it would. Harbor Freight has a decent fuel pressure gauge kit with lots of nice adaptors for not a lot of money. If you were closer I'd suggest coming over and borrowing mine..

Is the V6 direct injection or standard intake-valve injection? Direct injection may require different instrumentation to check due to the high pressures used in these systems.

I have the harbor freight unit. It has been very helpful in helping me with my M3 race car. I'm not sure what FI system my Cayenne has. I'm assuming what ever was standard that year. I'll look this weekend for test ports. I have good manuals for all my rides. Not the Cayenne though. The problem is intermittent. Runs ok then dies off on power. That leads me to think the pressure Reg. As you know these parts aren't cheap so I don't want to replace them on a whim. What have you found do be a good source for parts? I've used Pelican. TIA
