Check Engine Warning Light (dissapears after the car's started)

Hi everyone,

Here's the deal, I have a 2008 Porsche Cayenne and I just had it serviced a couple of weeks ago. Pretty much everything was in perfect condition, but they had to replace the battery and reset the false codes (all related to dead battery).

Everything was fine until I got in my car today. I turned the key to the right as usual to get the electronics to work first (didn't start the engine). All warning lights displayed as they always do but the Check The Engine warning light didn't go away and stayed on the dashboard. I tried not to panic and turned the ignition on. The engine warning light disappeared immediately. I drove around the block trying to 'hear' or notice anything odd. The engine light didn't appear during driving and there were no signs that something's wrong with the car. When I parked it and turned the ignition off I then turned the key to the right to see if the light comes out again and it did. But then again, when I turned the ignition on it went away.

Worth mentioning, the car runs as smooth as it'll ever be. The mechanic who checked the car for any issues is very respectable and trustworthy. I told him and he suggested taking the car to their garage again to diagnose it but I can't get an appointment until Friday.

Has anyone ever had the same issue? What could it be? Should I worry even though the light disappears after the car is actually started?

Please advise.

Thanks

With the key in RUN position, Check Engine Light (CEL) will stay on until you start the engine. This is perfectly normal behavior. You just didn't notice it before.

Cheers,
