Glenview has been growing since the opening of The Glen. Population is up to 42000. Look to spend at least $750k for something decent. Anywhere North Shore is good: Glenview, Northbrook, Highland Park, Deerfield etc.

Thats a tough question in such a large metro area. One of my brothers lives in a townhome Inverness/Palatine and loves it. Appreciation has been pretty good in that area.

Another brother lives just north of downtown by the intersection of Western and Clybourn in a new 2 floor loft, or whatever you call it. Appreciation has been good there as well. However this brother is moving out to the western suburbs and may be selling this place. What is your timeframe to buy/move?

BTW, he was looking at Naperville, very nice area, and seems to be growing pretty fast. There are a lot of overpriced areas, you will have to choose well to not overpay from the get go(specially in this market). Most of the suburbs have pockets that have been built up as well, those sometimes have some relative bargains if they are not in the Barringtons of the metro.

I have family and friends all over Chicago and the suburbs, they all seem to do pretty well with appreciation, so it's up to you which area you like the most. Best way is to drive around a bit, see what you like, then start researching the market in that area.

As far as the Western Suburbs go, you may want to consider Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle or Naperville. All of these areas have been doing well as far as appreciation goes over the last few years.
