where should I live?
where should I live?
I'm looking to move soon and want to buy a house somewhere in the chicago suburbs. Location isn't that important. I just want something that will be a solid investment and provide a good return when I sell it in 3-4 years. Price isn't a big concern either, but it should be in a resonable range so the house doesnt sit too long when it comes time to sell. I'm also looking for relatively new construction. Do you guys recommend I start looking in any specific areas?
No offense, but basically what I got from reading your post is this: Where should I live? I just need somewhere to live. Which narrows it down to every single suburb of Chicago, and then some. I think we may need a bit more to go on...

If you're looking for appreciation, I would aim toward the western suburbs like Naperville, Hinsdale, etc. It seems to me that the city is expanding westward. Of course a condo downtown will always be a solid investment, while a house on the north shore could be a good buy in today's realestate market, but if you're not planning on staying...who cares?
Evanston is a nice area as well. You're probably not going to lose out with the market where it's at right now, once people start buying homes again you'll be sure to make money there.
The far Northwest burbs aren't too bad, Crystal Lake/Lake in the Hills is still growing pretty quick. Barrington if you have the green, people will pay stupid money to say they live there... like it's sooo special or something.

if you absolutely have to, i recommend wherever you like on the north shore. Like Northbrook/Wilmette/Glenview area.
