Couple of Detailing Questions on New Black Car

I'm getting a New High End BMW in Sapphire Black in a week and a half that I have ordered.

I am very picky about my car's finish and this one is a 117k car that will mainly be garaged and pleasure driven.

What 'dealer prep' should I allow the dealer to do on the car. It comes with cosmolene to protect it which I know nothing about. Beyond that I feel I am pretty skilled with being picky about the paint.

I plan on doing the whole Zaino routine and I am going to air dry when I wash.

One more question is Chenile cotton or a real wool wash mit the best?

PLEASE NO DEALER PREP!!!!! Don't even let them wash it. Just take it home clay, zaino, and call it a day. My preference is a natural sheepskin mitt; not cotton or synthetic wool.

+a million

Dealer prep and dealer detailer work is about as bad as it comes in 95% of the dealerships. I have seen so many bad cases where the dealer for some reason on a perfectly good new car have used a rotary and swirled up the paint. Why? Dont ask me but do NOT let the dealer work on it.

Before I took delivery of my black Z06 I warned the dealer that I was picky about the paint on my cars. I told them to make sure whoever touched it that they know how to wash/prep a car. I get to the dealership and as soon as I pulled up I could see swirls under the outdoor lights. It took me two days of polishing to get them out. I had 4 marks on the hood that looked to be burn marks from a buffer and the car looked like it had been washed without any type of soap and water. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't order black and I wouldn't let the dealer touch the car if I could help it.

The only problem, I don't know if the dealer will let the car off the lot without them inspecting the paint. If they do, I bet if you find any marks, defects or any problems at all with the paint, they will say it's your problem.

Wash it and clean it in thier detail shop.

Back in June of 99 I picked up a MY 2000 Z3 2.8. It had one little drop of tree sap on the door, otherwise perfect.

I pointed it out, walked away from the car for about 5 minutes, come back to find a lot porter scrubbing at it with a DIRTY old rag.

Needless to say I forever had a mark in that one spot from that porter.
