Microfiber First Use Question

I just bought several new Microfibers to use on my new Black car. Should they be washed before first use or does it matter?

Also I just did the Microfibers and also a Austrailian Sheepskin Mit on a cd and the sheepskin mit made horrible scratches on the cd (I used it dry to get a feel for max damage). Any thoughts?

I always wash them first just in case they came across some grit during packaging or shipping. Better safe. As for the mit, wow, is it 100% sheep wool or does it have some polyester or nylon in it? Not sure what to say abount that one.

Yes it says on the box 100% Austrailian Sheepskin and I paid about $16 for it buy I just soaped it up and it still scratches the cd like crazy so I'm getting something else. I don't trust it.

Try the Shmitt Wash mitt it won't leave as many scratches.

Where did you get the mitt? If it's a REAL sheepskin mitt, it should not scratch. Keep in mind, your test is a good one but it's not real-world application. The clear on a car is much harder than the plastic of a cd. And you're going to be using a soap which will act as a lubricant.

Is it possible the sheepskin mit is a fake? I just got another one from Auto Geek and it doesn't scratch the cd and looks and feels totally different. The one that looks suspect is from "Austrailia Unlimited" and comes in a cardboard pouch that says "Genuine Sheepskin Car Wash and Dust Mit". The suspect looking one has straight hair that will pull out while the better one has curled plush hair that doesn't pull out. The suspect one is sold at Walmarts but I bought it online from a detail retailer.
