Question Griots Garage?

i finally got fed up with my local car wash guys and im sick of the silly half *** job that they do!

i used to always do my own work, but the real JOB kept me really busy, now that its quite settling down thought id get back into it

for the most part ive really only used Meguairs (sponsorship) and Mothers (my step dad uses it)

but i want to know more info on the Griots Garage products etc...
anyone tried them?

feedback?

info?

i saw that they were having a special that included an orbital polisher for $199, is it worth it?

any info would be greatly appreciated

thanx

I have a friend that uses their stuff quite frequently.

It's like anything else though, some of their things are great, some are average, etc...

I'll try to get up with him and see what he recommends!

Griot's products are OK in my opinion. They're for the average guy that simply want to keep his car clean. Griot's advantage is his catalog and biz model. He's made it very easy to buy stuff from him; I think he's an amazing marketing guru.

With that said, you can buy better products at the same price level. What products are you looking for? The kit you've considered from griot's for paint polishing really isn't great product wise. The polisher is a good one, but the polishes aren't really worthy of the effort in my opinion. You're better off getting the Menzerna line of polishes as they're what the professionals use. How simple or advanced do you want to get?

For the beginner, a simple clay, polish, wax is the foundation. You will also need some soap, wash mitt, towels, etc. You can keep it simple and cost effective, or you can take it to the next level and have it become therapy and/or a hobby. Let us know your direction. Either way, awsome choice on choosing to care for your own car; no one cares more about it than you. Get the right products, learn the right technique, and the results will make you and the car proud

I have been a Griot's customer for more than 15 years and have been very happy with the products. I have since had the opportunity to try some of the items from Moe's line. IMHO they are superior in every way to the Griot's line.

Thank you Sir for the honest feedback What sets our company apart from the typical care care resellers is that we're detailers first. So, we basically sell the same products we use in the field and know all the pros and cons of each particular product. We don't use one single brand because no one makes the best of everything. We cherry pick different products for different applications that they excel at. Once the product meets our expectations and exceeeds the product we laready use, we'll then put it on the shelf and sell to you. This works well for the consumer and DIY detailer because we've done our own R&D and only use and sell what we feel is the finest products in the world.

I also buy from Moe, his products are great. Griot's garage is a lot of relabeled products. It doesn't mean that they're bad, it just means that you're paying top dollar for it.

Gloss-it is infamous around these parts
I agree with Moe. Griot's Garage makes products that will give you a clean car. I like many professional detailers who bought and picked different products from many different companies to produce a great detail! This lead me to developing gloss-it.

I was tired of having to many products from various detail product companies. Running a shop it was not productive and very confusing for my detail crew. I spent many years formulating a complete line of great and consistent detail products.

I found that a few companies had 1 or 2 great products. My goal with gloss-it was to have many great products so that we can become a 1 stop shop for professionals and DIY's!

We are a new company trying to build brand identity in a competitive market. We truly stand behind all of our products and guarantee if not happy will fully refund your purchase! I do believe that everyone will always have their favorite products and continue to detail with what they believe gives the best results.

There are a few different sponsors of this forum that can easily compile a basic list of products for you.

Keeping it simple is absolutely the way to go, one of the biggest mistakes made by professionals is over complicating the process.

Products that I would view as essential and worth purchasing from our board sponsors are:

Glass Cleaner
Interior Cleaner
Wheel Cleaner
Auto Wash
Washing Tools (wheel brushes, wash mitt, MF towels)
Detail Spray
Tire Dressing

Those are the bare minimum tools to do an excellent job once you get your washing and cleaning process down. Keeping it simple and relying on quality products will undoubtedly give you excellent results time and time again.

Sounds great. If you want to keep it simple, start with one of the kits we built for Washing. From there you can build your war chest if you like by adding polishes, waxes, etc. Hope this helps point you to the right direction.

I like the word war chest. I started with the really cheap stuff and moved up over the years.
More recently I become an addict and went to Moe for my addiction which was the right choice. Recently I purchased a concourse polishing kit and concourse wax kit. The final touch was the hand rubbing of the wax into the paint.
Call me silly; but it gives me the same bond with my car that I have with my wife after 35 years of marriage.
