how to clean convertible top

Hey guys,

Need a bit of advice from some of the resident expert detailers. My cloth top seems to attract a lot of white lint. Looks great when the top is wet, but when it's dry, it really looks bad. I've tried the BMW top shampoo and even a lint remover with a somewhat adhesive surface, but the lint/white stuff almost seems embedded in the material. Without rubbing too hard or using any abrasive material, how can I restore the top to look jet black? I know 1 qt of oil would work, but looking for a better solution Any feedback would be appreciated.

Use a strong shop vac and vacuum the top. Then, you can use a convertible top cleaner like Raggtopp to properly clean the fabric. You'll then need to protect the fabric using a product like Raggtopp protectant. I think Phil at detailer's domain sells it.

You may also want to find out the source of the lint. What type of wash mitt are you using and how are you drying the top?
