where'd they go?
It's nice to see pros that enjoy helping others; like you Ivan.
I can only speak for myself, but I encourage and look forward to seeing everyone sharing their work here on 6speed. At the end of the day, the post should be something that adds value to the board and helps pros and DIYers alike.
So far, things are the best they've ever been. We have great new faces that are an asset to the board and we have lots of excellent questions from DIYers. Keep up the good work chaps.

Same here
So Moe, or whoever has the influence on how the site works, do you think it's possible to get a Show your work sub forum?
Just curious. Then we could keep this one to questions, but still see things like the awesome Countach detail! All of the rest of the rules would still apply related to not putting contact info in the threads or on the pics. If someone wants to contact the detailer, then they should do so offline via PM.
Does that seem fair, or possible?
D!

Is it getting better now? IMHO, without the Q and A and DIYers involved, this forum would not be successful. Input please.
It seems better... I'll be frequenting the forum more often now and let you know my opinion.
Sounds good.
A detailing forum is only as good as the people who contribute to it, by providing their knowledge and experience, in answering questions raised and providing How-To type articles and a Photographic section showing vehicles along with the detailing methods
Most detailing forums relay on the support of their sponsors; who should maintain a balance between advertising and information, thus ensuring sales do not become the main focal point of the forum and thereby turning it into a vendor’s catalogue

As one of those guys who is no longer around, but visits once in a while because I am a car-guy myself, here's my .02.
I made 2 threads with pictures along with how-to's. I was contacted by a mod and told what I was doing was a no-no.
Before I was told not to post pictures of client's cars I posted every chance I could to help out. I sent PM's to members with suggestions or answers to their questions(because in all honesty I don't like to have all of my methods publicly scrutinized by many people who don't know the first thing about detailing).
I feel I was a helpful member.
The problem is a catch-22. I can completely understand why a sponsor(s) would insist on non-sponsors not posting images/how-to's. They pay good money to stand out in a crowd. Anyone who thinks that posting images/how-to's and having a location in your profile is not in some way advertising, you're fooling yourself.
But if I can only be here to anonymously answer questions, with answers to questions that took a lot of hard work, energy and in many cases actual money to come up with, it makes no sense to waste my time.
I still have no problem with helping folks out who need some help. But it is not going to happen often. I am never here checking out my threads or creating new ones. I don't to come here to get help from anyone else. Coming here was two-fold. Check out other detailers work/cars and post up thread showing off what I thought was cool. The site has deemed that others can't post up work and I can't. The 6so.com detailing board has become to most stagnat I know of now. It used to be hoppin, as others have noted.
I agree that the posting work along with contact info got way out of hand. I do want to note that I never posted my logo/work van/contact info or anything else.
It is what it is. The board is here to make money, not friends or give hand-outs. But at the same time it definitely has suffered due to dropping the hammer on everyone. I was told that I could not have a hyphen in my screen name unless I became a sponsor. It doesn't matter that my name is spelled that way I suppose. But if that's the mentality around these parts I will not contribute my time(money).
I hope I don't come across as a jerk. But I can guarantee that 95% of those guys that have been run off are thinking the same thing. This is just the truth. I can still understand both sides of the argument, that's why I left without pissing and moaning or creating some issue.
Here's one more example I have just been made aware of. I was given an infraction for "spamming advertising" for my input in this thread. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-cleaning.html
Ok, wtf? From the get-go I doubted some product and voiced my opinion. I get contacted by the guy who makes the product and tells me he'd like to change my mind by sending me a sample. I go back and tell everyone what I thought of it. In all honesty it wasn't a very flattering review and yet I still get an infraction. This is the type of retarded crap that runs people off.

It seems that there have been some things going on in the background that maybe we sponsors weren't aware of. I know that there was a time where things were just way out of hand with posting by pros. In an effort to clean house, I think the mods did what they did; and quite honestly, it's now a lot better in the sense that we're getting more input from DIYers. However, we do need to keep a core group of detailers that are professional that frequent here and can hang their hats and call 6speed their home.
There is a very fine line in distinguishing helping posts from advertorial-type posts. There has to be a happy middle-of-the-road and that's what we're trying to figure out now.
In the meantime, I still think that 6speed has a great demographic of pros and DIYers that congregate to get/give advice. We have some great sponsors here and frankly, between all of us, there is an encyclopedia of tips, tricks, advice, technical know-how, and product knowledge that is at the members' disposal. Some of the finest detailers in the country are here on this board. IMHO, quality is more important than quantity.
