where'd they go?

what happened to all the detailing threads like the click and brag type where people detailed a car and showed a process with pic documentation?

I saw a couple a few pages back from mburns and smoke.

I think that we're getting more questions from DIYers now and that may be pushing back some threads. Either way, I think this is one of the top detailing forums on the net. Keep up the great work guys. We have a great community here

Guidelines

#1 - Only sponsors can advertise services and sell products!

Advertising consists of:
-A company name or reference to a company name as your user name
-A company name, link, or point of contact in your signature
-A company name, link, or point of contact in your profile
-A company name, link, or point of contact in your avatar
-Promoting your products or services
-Posting work you've done for clients

That last one is too bad. It seems like as long as you're not selling your services directly it may be helpful for some to see what is possible as far as correction as well as some of the processes used. Is it possible to re-evaluate this last bullet?

When the last bullet wasn't inforced, there was only people promoting their work on the detailing forum. If you asked a question, it would quickly move off the first page and be lost. I stopped using the detailing forum for that reason. There were a few nasty offenders that ruined it for the rest.

I would like to here a mods take on that actually. I have heard 6 speed is extremely harsh with people who it could be construed they are promoting their product/services.

I would love to be able to post up a few of my details on some ferrari's and porsches however the pictures have my company name in them. I wish the mods of the detailing forum would re-visit that rule and possibly ammend it because obviosly there are a few members who would like to see our work. It would also be helpful for them because they would be able to find quality detailers in their areas.

What are your guys opinions on this?

And also people like moe and phil, what are your responses for this? I think that your opinion is worth a lot because you guys are sponsors and such.

,Daniel

I agree with not having the company name on the pics. That's not fair to the people who pay for sponsor status here. But if I am a professional detailer and want to show off my work and tell my procedure, how is that not a benefit to the site. People who want to learn will be able to see the different products, processes and results and I think we're all adult enough to let people decide for themselves what they want to buy. As long as the person who is showing off their work isn't saying things like "I could do this for you too" or "buy this product from me" I don't see the issue. If someone really wants to use them or their product then I think it is completely fair if it is instigated by the person who is interested. But it needs to be off the main board. Maybe we should have a sub forum that is called Show and shine or show off or something like that and that can be where people show their work and this can be where people ask questions.

But I've got to agree with the no company name stuff on your work in the pics. It's not hard to remove that stuff.

As far as it getting out of hand with people trying to sell their wares/work, I think that the mods can instigate some kind of policy where they first warn them either on or off board (On board is helpful so others may learn from their mistake) and then they get a formal warning and then they are gone or something like that. It seems like we're all adults here and we could abide by those rules.

What do you guys think?

Anyway, that's my 2 cents again.

I agree 100% D!tailed!

there are 1000000's of cars on the road, plenty of room for more than just the site sponsor to "detail" Besides, who is to say a site sponsor is really all that good? there could be better options out there but by limiting to just the sponsor pic posting rights, it kinda makes it seem like they are the ONLY one...I have personally corrected work from other said people who were supposed to be better, and I have heard of plenty of others (no names will be leaked) who had to correct a "good detailer's" crappy work....

just my two cents...

I think a sponsor is held to a much higher standard than others. Sponsors have a vested interest in giving quality advice, providing quality service, and setting benchmarks for others. As anything in life, there's an entry fee to play the game. For this forum, we have set rules and guidelines because we wanted this board to be different than other detailing boards.

The problem we were having is when a particular detailer would post his/her work on as many forums he/she could have the time for. IMHO, that's not helping but rather promoting. Common sense. Personally, I welcome other detailers' opinions and advice on detailing. There are some great new additions to our family here and so far, most of you respect our rules. This is why we now have more traffic from DIYers here asking questions, posting their experience with products, etc. Some of you detailers have recommended products that we sponsors don't sell or use. No one, to my knowledge, has deleted or edited posts with competing products. No one can try every product out there, so it's great that we have so many different inputs from professionals and DIYers.

Bottom line, if you want to post with your company logo, company info as signature, user name related to your company, etc. pay the sponsorship fees and do it the right way. I for one enjoy reading other detailers' posts, learning how they do things, etc. You must learn to grow.

Can someone give me the user name of the mod I should contact about sponsorship? I semi agree with moe about the entry fee to everything in life and I dont want to take advantage of Moe and Phil.

If the mod sees this post, please shoot me a PM.

,Dan
