If you go the metallic route, basalt black, you're in better shape since it'll hide imperfections better than a solid black.

However, black is not for the faint of heart or those that cannot upkeep. It's basically like dating a super model. She's great around your arms, but requires lots of maintenance.

I think if you just do a good job of detailing, a proper wash, and the right tools and technique, you'll be fine.

I'm 52 and I've washed my cars 2-3 times a week all my life. Many times I have heard the "wash the paint off" comment. My usual reply is that it's my car and I can wash it as many times as I want. If the paint comes off I'll get it repainted.

+1 to Basalt Black. If you go black, a metalic paint like Basalt Black will hide imperfections and swirls much more better than regular non-metallic black.

Black and darker color cars always require the most maintenance, but if you love detailing your car, black will always come out looking the best. Sure it'll only last 24 to 48 hours before it's dirty/dusty again, but it'll definitely turn heads when fully detailed.

Moe - I've got a black panamera turbo (not basalt) and trying to determine best way to get some swirl / scratch marks out of the paint from the previous - what products / technique would you recommend? I'm not an expert but I do have a D/A polisher and was going to try something like the meguirs paint correction system - thoughts???
